Marine Accessories
Business Opens Here
By LANE GARDNER

News Staff Writer
A “new concept” in the
marine accessories business
is what Charlie Knight is
calling his recently opened
place of business on High
way 20 at Georgia 400
Knight Marine.
Having opened Memorial
Day weekend, the local busi
ness is the first of what
Knight hopes will someday
be a chain of Knight Ma
rines. “I’m trying to put to
gether a concept no one else
has ever tried with marine
accessories,” he says.
What Knight offers is a
promise to install anything
he sells whether it’s tra
iler hitches, flag poles, ra
dios or lights.
In order to be able to make
this offer, the business has
its own garage space for
installations. There is even a
turn-around drive in the
back of the building to ac
commodate boats.
Other things Knight says
he carries are a “good line”

Two New
Doctors
Added
The Forsyth County Hospi
tal wishes to announce that
two new doctors have opened
practices in Cumming and
are on the active staff of the
Forsyth County Hospital
with admitting privileges,
according to hospital admin
istrator Joe Brandon.
The doctors are:
• Dr. James L. Bean with a
practice in obstetrics and
gynecology. He is located at
104 North Main St. The phone
number is 889-9332.
• Dr. Leo Mack with a
practice in oral surgery. He
is located at the Butler
Building on Dahlonega
Street. His number is 889-
9268.
GASOLINE FACT
Winter-grade gasolines
are blended to have higher
volatility; thus they make
cold-engine starting easier.
These high-volatile winter
gasolines, Extension Service
engineers warn, tend to va
porize excessively during
warm weather. This makes
them more explosive and
subject to high fuel losses
from storage tanks. The en
gineers warn: When using
winter blends in warm
weather, remove tank caps
slowly and carefully to re
lease accumulated vapors
and prevent fuel from surg
ing out.
KNIGHT MARINE IN FORSYTH COUNTY
...recently opened on Highway 20 at Ga. 400
of sportswear, swim wear
and Top Sider deck shoes.
He says the store places
special emphasis on water
skis, carrying the three “top
of the line” brands: O’Brien,
E.P. and Kidder.
Knight says his store has
the “most complete stock of
sailing hardware on this side
of the lake,” a lot of brass
nautical gifts, PVC patio fur
niture and VHF marine ra
dios.
Other than its line of ma
rine accessories and the
promise to install anything
sold, Knight Marine also is
distinguished in that it is
“completely computerized,”
according to Knight.
Knight says that being on
computer makes Knight Ma
rine a “fantastic absentee
owner investment.” He says
it allows an owner to obtain
immediate up-to-the-minute
inventory reports.
Knight is so confident
about his new business ven
ture that he hopes to have
ten more Knight Marines in
the metro-Atlanta area
within the next three years.

And within five years,
Knight hopes to put his ma
rine business on a national
franchise program.
In perfecting his new con
cept, Knight says he’d really
like to have one of his stores
“on the water.” In line with
this, he says he is currently
negotiating a second store
site at Bald Ridge Marina in
Cumming.
And Knight expects to
have a third Knight Marine
located in Doraville by
Spring. “Ski Metamorpho
sis” is the name of the busi
ness Knight has there now.
Ski Metamorphosis is a
five-year-old operation be
gun in Norcross that deals
primarily with water and
snow skis.
A graduate of Florida
State University in Tallahas
see, Fla., Knight first went
into teaching and coaching
(at Henderson High School
in DeKalb County), but left
that because of the small
amount of money to be
made.
He first started a business
in Norcross that dealt with
skateboarding. From there
he went to water skis (Ski
Metamorphosis) and later,

because of the lack of busi
ness in the winter, he added
snow skis.
Knight, himself, has been
water skiing ever since his
days with the Florida State
Circus which allowd him to
do some skiing at Callaway
Gardens. “It (the business)
evolved from there,” he
said.
The first Knight Marine
still needs some building and
grounds work, but Knight
says that should be com
pleted by late June.
The building is scheduled
to be painted a nautical gray
with ship’s roap around the
outside.
Knight feels he’s selected
a good site for the first
Knight Marine, mainly be
cause Highway 20 is the first
exit to the lake when travel
ing up Georgia 400.
Of his establishment in the
Cumming area, Knight says,
“We want to be community
involved.”
The business is currently
open seven days a week.
There are plans to hire seve
ral parttime employees of all
ages. Knight says, “We want
a good cross section of per
