Parents Should
Get Certificates
Parents of children enter
ing school for the first time
this fall are urged to obtain
the children’s birth certifi
cates early in the summer to
avoid an unnecessarily long
wait
“Birth certificates are
needed for entering school
for the first time, getting a
driver’s license, a passport,
and Social Security or other
retirement benefits,” said
Michael Lavoie, head of the
Vital Records Office of the
Georgia Department of Hu
man Resources.
“Normally, a copy of a
birth certificate can be is
sued in about 20 minutes
when a person comes to our
office, or in about two weeks
when the application is made
by mail,” he said. “How
ever, when the school rush
begins in July, the wait can
be as long as an hour in the
office or four to six weeks by
mail.”
Birth certificates may be
obtained from the County
Vital Records Custodian in
the county of birth or at the
Vital Records office,
Georgia Department of Hu

Atlanta Gas Has New Plan
To help their customers
cope with higher gas bills
during colder winter
months, Atlanta Gas Light
Company has announced a
new Budget Payment Plan
which will allow customers
to spread their annual gas
bill over equal monthly pay
ments.
The plan is available to the
company's residential cus
tomers, including those
served under the trade
names of Georgia Natural
Gas Company and Savannah
Gas Company. To be eligi
ble, a customer must have
paid all outstanding gas bills
at the time the first Budget
Payment bill is prepared,
have received gas service at
the current address for the
last 12 months, and have a
projected Budget Payment
amount of a least S2O per
month.
Although the Budget Pay
ment Plan can be joined at
and sixth grader David
Wright, who submitted the
cover design, made the pre
sentation.

ommends that customers en
ter the program in July so
that budget payments can
begin in August. This will
spread the higher winter
bills over a longer period of
time, thus reducing the
amount of the monthly pay
ment.
The plan averages a cus
tomer’s annual gas bill into
11 equal monthly payments
with an adjustment payment
in the 12th month. The com
pany will estimate an annual
gas bill based on a custom
er’s gas usage for the pre
vious 12-month period,
adjusted to current gas costs
and projected increases or
decreases. This estimated
amount of the next 12
months' total gas bill is di
vided by 11 to determine the
actual monthly bill for the
Budget Plan months August
through June.
July is “settlement”

Trusty said. “Every child
should be treated with love
and understanding. The
classroom should be a place
where learning and fun can
be combined.”

month for the program, and
customers will be billed for
the actual amount of gas
used that month. If a cus
tomer has paid for more gas
than was actually used dur
ing the August-June period,
the overpayment will appear
on the July bill as a credit.
The credit balance will be
applied to future Budget
Payments or refunded if the
customer requests.
However, if payments dur
ing the Budget Payment
Plan period were less than
the cost of gas used, the bill
will show a balance due. The
amount, plus the July bill
amount, must be paid in or
der to enter into the Budget
Payment Plan for the next 12
months.
Each Budget Payment
Plan account will be re
viewed during February to
determine the accuracy of
the original estimate. If it
appears that at the end of the
Budget Payment Plan pe
riod the customer will have
underpaid or overpaid by a
significant amount, the
monthly bill will be in
creased or decreased for fu
ture payments accordingly.
The Budget Payment Plan
is competely optional and is
