Whalen, Makari Wed
Vickey Lee Whalen of Atlanta and the Rev. Philip E. Makari
of tumming were united in marriage Saturday, May 30, at 3
p.m. at Norcross Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Harold
Parker of Cherokee Presbytery performed the ceremony.
Charlotte Neville served as the organist. Keith Jefcoat
played the piano and John and Ricky McLean played the
trumpets. Libby Jackson was the soloist. Laura Stephenson
was the wedding director. Members of Deer Creek Presbyte
rian Church in Cumming, where Rev. Makari is pastor,
sponsored the reception.

County will demonstrate
how to make an umbrella
skirt on television station
WXIA on Saturday, July 25.
The eight-minute show will
be presented by County Ex
tension Home Economist
Pat Kilmark and Home
maker Council President
Carolyn Williams on “Ad
ventures in Living” from
6:30-7 a.m.
Ms. Kilmark has already
held several classes on the
umbrella skirt and 22 local
women have attended. They
left the class with instruc
tions and a patern they had
made themselves.
The 12-gored skirt is easy
to make out of 1.75 yards of
lightweight cotton fabric,
Ms. Kilmark said.
Complete directions for
constructing an umbrella
skirt may be obtained from
the county Extension office
at 101 E. Maple St. in Cum
ming.
‘Li’l Abner’ Is Set
To Begin Here July 30
“Dogpatch, U.S.A.” is
coming to Cumming.
The Forsyth County Little
Theatre is now preparing for
its summer production of
“Li’l Abner,” a musical
comedy about young love,
Sadie Hawkins Day and a
small town, “Dogpatch,
U.S.A.” Rehearsals are be
ing held Tuesday and Thurs
day nights.
Performances are sched
uled for July 30 and 31 and
Aug. 1,6, 7, 8 and 9in the
Cumming Elementary
School gymnasium.
One special feature of the
opening night’s performance
will be a barbecue before
curtain time. The Dinner
Belles of Midway United
Methodist Church will be
providing the meal in the
school parking lot from 5:30
to 7 p.m.
