HELEN BROOKS ACCEPTS $1,070 FOR THE COMMUNITY CENTER

Last week, the Sawnee As
sociation of the Arts ac
cepted $1,070 from a private
group for the drive for a
county community center.
Mrs. Jonnie Beasley pre
sented the money on behalf
of Tommy Bagwell and a
group who sponsored a twi
light cruise on Lake Lanier.
Bagwell, a local business
man who encourages worth
while community projects,
donated his boat, gas, crew
and time for the cruise.
Sponsors of the cruise
were the Horace Beasleys,
the Maurice Roes, the Ben
ton Kinneys, the Bonnie
Blaekstocks, the B.M.
Crains, the George Rob
Communicating With
Deaf Course Planned
Intermediate course in
communicating with the
deaf will be held at Gaines
ville Junior College starting
July 6, Monday nights, 6:30-
9.30 p.m.
Janie Penland. who is
deaf, will be teaching an
intermediate course in Com
municating With The Deaf.

fund-raising projects being

Blood Donors
Give 70 Pints
A total of 70 pints of blood
was collected by the Atlanta
chapter of the American Red
Cross when it held a commu
nity blood drive at the For
syth County courthouse on
Thursday, June 25.
The 70-unit total was five
short of the 75-unit goal set
before the drive.
The actual number of do
nors to turn out at the drive
was 77 which was 13 short
of the expected 90.
Seven persons were de
ferred Thursday for medical
reasons.
The area company with
the highest number of donors
at the drive was Southern
Bell’ Fourteen of its employ
ees presented themselves at
the donor line. Eleven were
able to give blood and three
were deferred.
Five more pints of blood
was collected at this drive
than was collected at the last
drive held March 12.
The results of last week’s
drive brings the total num
ber of pints collected in the

county this year to 201. Be
sides the 65 units collected at
the last community drive, 66
pints were raised when the
Forsyth County High School
Key Club sponsored a drive
at the high school on Feb. 20.
A 300-pint goal has been
set for the county for 1981.
Additional drives are
planned for September and
December.

Assisting with last week’s
drive was the Forsyth
County Hospital Auxiliary.
Members performed clerical
duties and provided home
baked goods for the canteen.
