The contestants competed
on a colorful stage that was
decorated with potted
plants, stuffed animals, and
enormous lolli-pops.
Favorite cartoon charac
ters among the contestants
ranged from blue smurfs to
pink panthers. In the favor
ite food catagory, macaronni
and cheese seemed to be the
number one choice.
Other pageant partici
pants also received trophies.

Jenkins Calls
For Allies To
Honor Pledge
In a speeches untiay to the
'aimuaLNinth District Ameri
can Legions Convention in
Gainesville, Ninth District
Congressman Ed Jenkins
called for Western European
allies and Japan to honor
their pledge for increased
defense efforts within their
own countries.
Jenkins said he has never
supported and will never
support a foreign policy that
encourages the United
States to turn its back on its
allies.
However, he said, “We
must begin to have more
favorable support from our
allies if we are to continue
our historical role as leader
of the free world. The burden
of increased military
strength cannot rest solely
on our shoulders. Our allies
must do more.”

Bank Of Cumming To
Build A New Branch
The Bank of Cununing has
announced it will construct a
new Tri-County Office
branch, according to Walter
A. “Buddy” Hobbs, bank
president.
The new office is sched
uled for completion in late
January, and according to
Hobbs, “will be a full service
branch offering loans, safe
deposit boxes, accepting all
forms of deposits, and will
feature four new drive ups
and four inside teller sta
tions.”
The new 4,200 square foot
facility will set on a 1.7 acre
