Her Specialty Is Water Colors
“Drawing is something
you can do alone”, says
Jeannine Sharkey, the Saw
nee Association of the Arts
artist of the month for Octo
ber.
Mrs. Sharkey, who lives in
Cumming, with her husband
John, says she always has
wanted to paint, and began
her art-work when she began
copying the funny papers
when she was 12 years old.
As she got older, she took
art classes in high school,
but explains that when she
was in school, the schools did
not put much emphasis on
the arts, and therefore she
did not have much opprotu
nity to exercise her talents.
It wasn’t until after she
was married and had chil
dren that she decided to pur
sue her art work again.
She began taking oil
classes in Michigan, and ex
plains that she was more-or
less “afraid” of water col
ors, and it wasn’t until she
moved to Dunwoody that she
took a water color course,
and she decided to stick to
that form of painting. She

now considers it her spe
cialty.
Floral arrangements and
people are her main interest,
and she usually works in soft
muted colors. She is a an
impressionistic artist, which
means that she is more abs
tract than realistic in her
art.
Mrs. Sharkey is still not
“pleased” with her work,
and is always looking for
ways to improve herself. “I
know where I want to go”,
she says, “I’m just not there
yet”.
Mrs. Sharkey is planning
to offer a basic water color
class this month, to show
people what water-color can
do. “Water color is very ver
sitile, but you can’t over
work it like you can oils”,
she said.
She explained that water
colors are easy to work with,
and they require few sup
plies and a quick clean-up.
“There are a lot of tricks
one can do with water col
ors”, she said.
Beginning Oct. 12, and
lasting for six weeks, Mrs.
