Bulldogs

“They are a very physical
and punishing team. And
their offensive line is awe
some. They’re big, strong
and quick they’re the rea
son Cedar Shoals is such a
powerful offensive team.
“We tried a lot of things on
defense to stop them, but we
were just outmanned.
“Offensively, I was
pleased with the Shoot. It
creates a lot of defensive
mistakes. Even though they
rushed only four players and
had seven playing pass de
fense, we still managed over
200 yards total offense. That
says a lot for the offense.”
The Bulldogs will be
looking to rebound for their
first region win this week

Gators Turnover
Game To Warriors
The Cherokee Warriors
took advantage of five Gator
turnovers in building a 21-0
lead over South Forsyth last
Thursday evening, and even
tually walked away from
Forsyth County Stadium
with a 21-8 victory.
The ball was certainly
bouncing Cherokee’s way in
the ninth grade contest as
the Warriors recovered five
of their six fumbles and also
recovered all three of the
Gators’ fumbles as well as
intercepting two passes. The
loss was South Forsyth’s sec
ond in three games.
Cherokee’s first scoring
play set the tempo for the
rest of the night as a Warrior
back took a quick pitch from
the quarterback, fumbled
the ball, kicked it and then
picked it up and outraced all
Gator defenders 40 yards for
a touchdown. The conversion
kick was good, giving the
Warriors an early 7-0 lead.
Midway through the sec
ond quarter, the Warriors
broke another long run for a
touchdown, this one coming
from 45 yards out. A two
point conversion pass was
good and Cherokee took a 15-

A South Forsyth fumble on
its next possession gave Che
rokee the ball on the Gator
15-yard line. But a deter
mined defense refused to al
low the Warrior offense past
the 12, where the Gators took
over after a fourth-down con
version failed.
But another fumble gave
Cherokee back the ball on
the Gator 20 and the defense
was called upon to guard the
endzone once again. The
Warriors scored an apparent
touchdown on a 20-yard pass
play, but an official caught
the Warriors in a bit of trick
ery and called the play back.
The receiver that caught
the ball had merely stepped
from the sidelines to the
playing field without report
ing to the huddle, which is
against high school rules.
The infraction cost the War
riors 15 yards, a total which
evolved into 45 yards after
the Cherokee coach was
flagged twice for unsports
manlike conduct for his vig
orous protest of the call.
A Cherokee interception in
the third quarter set up the
Warriors third touchdown of
the evening, a one-yard
quarterback sneak. The con
version kick was blocked
and the Warrior lead stood at
21-0.
The Gators tried despera
tely to get back into the
game, mounting an offensive
series of downs that brought
them to the Cherokee three
yard line. But again, the
turnover nemesis rose its
ugly head and the Gators
walked away empty-handed.
South Forsyth finally got
on the board on a one-yard
touchdown dive by Larry
Jenkins with just over three
minutes remaining in the
game. A two-point conver
sion pass from quarterback
Kelly Curl to receiver Steve
Darnell was good as the Ga
tors closed the deficit to 21-8.
But the Gators could not
mount another scoring drive
in the game’s final minutes
and watched as time fan out
without another offensive se
ries.
For the game, Jenkins led
South Forsyth with 73 yards
rushing in only nine carries
while Curl totaled 28 yards in
just two carries. Curl also
led the team defensively,
getting in on 15 tackles while
Tom Long got in on ten.
South Forsyth’s next game
will come this Thursday
when South Habersham
travels to Forsyth County
Stadium to take on the Ga
tors in a 5:30 p.m. game.
North Falls Short
With 57 seconds remaining
in North Forsyth’s game at
North Hall, the Wildcats
found themselves on the Tro
jan 15-yard line, trailing 22-
14 and needing a touchdown
and two-point conversion to
gamer a tie with the power
ful home team.
The Wildcats had received
one last chance to tie the
game when David Daniel
recovered a Trojan fumble
with just over two minutes to
play in the game. Coach
Richie Taylor’s team moved
the ball down the field and
found itself in the position to
