She Made Her Own Soap
And Churned Her Butter
Eula L. Boyd has had
some misfortune this year,
but it hasn’t damaged her
spirits. She’s happy to be 95-
years-old.
After recovering from
pneumonia, she fell and
cut her head so badly it re
quired nine stitches to repair
the wound.
Her recovery from both
maladies has been so
speedy, doctors at the nurs
ing home in Athens where
she now resides refer to her
as “the eighth wonder of the
world.”
Bom Sept. 7 in the Bethel
Community of Forsyth
County, Mrs. Boyd has lived
a very active life once
being a reporter for The For
syth County News.
As a young girl, her inter
est in music led her to be
come organist for the Bethel
Baptist Church. She says she
never missed a service or a
funeral during the years she
served as an organist.
It was through her love for
music that she met the man
she would marry. W. L.
(Leonard) Boyd attended a
singing school where she
was the accompanist. “I
picked him out right away,”
she says. “And he felt the
same way.”
The two were married
Dec. 15,1912, and lived in the
Oscarville community until
1919, when they moved to a
farm near Alpharetta. Mr.
Boyd was raised in what had
been the old Vann Taveran,
which was since moved to
Calhoun and restored by the
historical society.

Today, Mrs. Boyd still en

HAS A CURE FOR THE COMMON COLD AND FOR THE
RECORD HIGH HEATING BILL YOU WILL RECEIVE, DUE TO
A RECORD COLD WINTER AND A 25 PER CENT INCREASE
IN FUEL COST. YOU CAN BE SURE THAT HEATING COSTS
WILL CONTINUE TO RISE, ESPECIALLY WITH THE DECON
TROL OF NATURAL GAS & ELECTRICITY IS SURE TO KEEP
PACE.
CRAFT IS THE MOST TROUBLE-FREE STOVE ON THE
MARKET. WE USE THE FINEST FIREBOX STEEL
AVAILABLE. PLUS THE SQUIRREL-CAGE BLOWER, THE
SAME TYPE BLOWER USED IN MOST CONVENTIONAL
HEATING SYSTEMS. YOU CAN USE YOUR CRAFT STOVE
WHEN THE POWER IS OFF WITHOUT WORRYING ABOUT
DAMAGING YOUR BLOWER. SOME STOVE MANUFAC
TURERS USE PLASTIC BLADE FANS THAT TEND TO BE
VERY NOISY. WHEN SHOPPING FOR A STOVE, ASK TO
SEE BLOWER BEFORE PURCHASING.
WILL A CRAFT STOVE FIREPLACE INSERT REALLY HEAT MY HOUSE?
Yes, many customers never again use their conventional home heating systems.
Regardless of whether they have used oil, gas, electicity or whatever, they slash
their heating bills to the bone. Even if you have to buy your wood, you still save
dramatically and everyone knows that wood heat is WARMTH.
Your fireplace is a wood waster! Ninety percent (90%) of the heat goes
straight up the chimney, which is the same as saying that your fireplace is at best
only 10% efficient. Since the heat comes from the logs this means that every
time you put 10 logs in your fireplace you are only getting heat from one (10%)
of the logs. The other nine logs (90%) are wasted. Your Craft Stove fireplace in
sert will operate up to 80% efficiency and one filling of wood will burn from 8-20
hours.
HOW DOES IT DO IT?
There are 4 Craft Stove fireplace models designed to heat up to 3000 square
feet. Through the natural principles of radiation and convection and the powerful
forced air blower, there should not be 6-10 degrees difference in the room with
the stove and the farthest room away.
