(BPW) Club “Woman of
Achievment” award is Oct.
9. This is the fourth annual
award program to be spon
sored by the local BPW club.

ing Association will sponsor
a sewing by satellite on Sat
urday Nov. 6, from 11 a.m. to
5 p.m. EST.
Registration is Oct. 22, and
the fee will be $45.
Late registration will be
$55 at the door.
The location of the sattel
lite course will be announced
at a later time, but will be in
the Atlanta area.
Residents age 55 and older
may ride the blue bus. To
reserve a place on the bus,

sor a gymnastic class begin
ning Oct. 13 at 2:30,3:30 and
4:30 in the Cumming El
ementary P.E. building.
Lori Webb of Gainesville
will instruct the pre-schcol
and school age begginers
and intermediates.

Contest
The Lanier Toastmasters
will hold a humorous speech
contest for members and vis
itors during their next meet
ing on Tuesday, Oct. 12, at 7
p.m. at the Forsyth County
Courthouse.
The Toastmasters got a
taste of a humorous speech
during its last meeting, Sept.
28, when Art Brannon, from
the Sandy Springs Club,
talked to the club. Brannon
won the humerous speech
contest held at his club. His
topic was the advantages of
mudslinging in politics.
Also during the meeting,
Jim DeSana and Roger Dunn
spoke. DeSana discussed an
extensive display of his three
dimensional art work and
the proposed plans for the
Cumming-Forsyth Commu
nity Center.
Dunn spoke on the subject
of communication. He told
the group of the need for a
good voice in telephone com
munication, since the lis
tener does not have the
benefit of personal obser
vation.
Other‘guests at the meet
ing included Sylvia Lewis,
Teresa March, Regina
Mana, Judy Ferry and Eric
Wolfe. Brent Orr also was
inducted into the club.
All visitors and interested
persons are invited to attend
the Toastmaster’s meeting,

HEARD RETIRES
James W. Heard, Cedar
town superintendent for At
lanta Gas Light Company,
began his retirement Oct. 1
after serving 45 years with
the company. Heard joined
the company in 1937 as a
distribution helper and was
promoted to Forsyth County
as a department helper in
1938.
