4-H CLUB VOLUNTEER LEADERS MADE BACKDROP

A great help to 4-H’ers is
Volunteer Leaders. They
help on demonstrations, pro
jects, recordbooks, commu
nity activities and
workshops.
Volunteer Leaders can be
anyone - parent, friend or
interested adult. A volunteer
leader is anyone willing to

Cloverleaf District Project
Achievement (DPA) was
held June 24-25 at Rock Ea
gle 4-H Camp. Forsyth
County had 40 boys and girls
to participate in DPA. There
were 31 people to place first,
second or third. The winners
and their projects are as
follows:
First: Terri Cain, Clothing
and Textiles; Alan Chung,
Pet Care; Gene Garrett,
Food Conservation and
Safety; Stacy Garrett, Fash
ion Revue; Leslie Hobbs,
Communications; Jason
Holbrook, Horse; Mark
Kirby, Poultry; Marion Mc-
Neal, Wood Science; Laurie
Pirkle, Canning; Chris Ro
den, Wildlife; Dede Thomas,
Health; Devin Wright, Land
scape Design.

4-H’ers.
A little over a year ago, a
group of volunteers formed
the 4-H Volunteer Leaders
Association. These parents
and volunteers meet each
fourth Thursday night at
7:30 p.m. at Cumming City
Hall. Together with the

Management; Tonia Odum,
Marine Resources; Nancee
Thomas, Junior Archery,
second place; and Michael
Smallwood, Senior Rifle,
first place.
Michael competed at state
competition July 5-9 at Camp
Wahsega at the Wildlife Con
ference for Rifle, where he
placed second. Junior leader

class in candlemaking and

nior-Senior 4-H Club at

March 19-21. In this event,
five Forsyth County 4-H’ers
received first place: Ben
Bagwell, Michael Small
wood, Scott Kirby, Nancee
Thomas and Amy Warbing
ton; two second place: Ke
rensa Shoemake and Susan
Thomas; and three third
County Extension Agents,
the volunteers discuss the 4-
H program, up-coming
events, and how they can
help the 4-H’ers.
Our success as 4-H’ers is
due to volunteer leaders and
parents. We couldn’t do with
out them and we appreciate
all their great help.
Junior leader Susan Thomas
taught a dancing class.
We also won a plaque for
Merit on Honor, a trophy for
the most first places won and
a trophy for the most per
centage of first place win
ners.
Everyone who attended is
really a winner. They had
new and different experi
ences. They learned from
others and learned by doing.
This is what 4-H is really
about.'

Smallwood placed second.
While at DPA, two senior
4-h’ers, Susan Thomas and
Scott Kirby, received Junior
Leadership Awards.
