Clovers And Company
Is Performing Arts
By SUSAN THOMAS
Clovers and Company!!
What’s that? A professional
group of 4-H’ers from all
over the state. It is singers,
dancers, instrumentalists,
and stage hands, all working
together to form a first class
show.
Clovers and Company was
formed in 1981 when Kenny
and Teresa Holder of Clay
ton County began to think
that Georgia needed some
thing in the Performing Arts
part of 4-H. They got to
gether with some supporting
4-H agents and met with Bill
Edwards, Extension Recre
ation Specialist, who loved
the idea. So began Clovers
and Company.
Two days were set up at
Rock Eagle 4-H Center for
auditions. Twenty-five kids
from all over the state were
chosen to make up the group.
I was one of the lucky 25
chosen to be in the first com
pany and was also fortunate
to be chosen to choreograph
the show.
We met at Rock Eagle to
pull the show together, and
performed several times
during the year for different
functions. We had the oppor
tunity to perform at the Mar
riott Hotel at State Congress,

at the Volunteer Leader’s
Retreat, and for the 4-H
Showcase.
This year on June 10th and
16th, Teresa and Kenny
Holder, Monty Griffin, Bo
Ryles, Walter Reeves, and
Lisa Brumbelow watched as
approximately 110 4-H’ers
auditioned for the second
company. It was very orga
nized, just like a professional
show. Each contestant had
to perform his/her individ
ual talent, had an interview
with the judges, and had to
sing a verse of “My Country
‘Tis of Thee”. They were
judged on appearance, natu
ralness, originality,
showmanship and talent.
They also gave consider
ation to how well each con
testant fit into the show.
This year’s Clovers and
Company met on June 9-12
and pulled the show to
gether, then performed on
Sunday afternoon at Rock
Eagle. Again, I was chosen
to be a member of this spe
cial group. We again per
formed at the Marriott at
State Congress, and taped
the show for the 4-H Show
case. The Company usually
performs several times dur
ing the year for different
groups.
The theme for the first
Clovers and Company was
the history of 4-H“4-H Looks
Toward Tomorrow”.
This year, “We’re Georgia
People” shows how special
the folks of Georgia are.
Being a member of Clo
vers and Company means a
lot of hardwork, but a won
derful opportunity and a
great experience. Meeting 4-
H’ers from all over the state,
making new friends, learn
ing to work together, the
discipline, the fellowship,
performing, performing per
forming, performing!!!!!
We salute the youth and adult members of 4-H
nationwide during the week of October 3 through
9th! Members and volunteers of 4-H clubs all over
the country have brought young minds, hearts and
hands together with goals, opportunities and
tasks. From these learning encounters, young peo
ple have developed into fine, responsible, active
citizens! Thanks to all 4-H'ers!
