Senior Rally
A Fun Trip
By BENJAMIN BAGWELL
On an average Saturday
morning, three 4-H’ers, Ear
lene Roden, and Carol White
went to Camp Wahsega for
Senior Rally. The 4-H’ers
were Eric Roden, Susan
Thomas, and Ben Bagwell.
We set out on our trip early
Saturday morning, May Ist.
When we reached Dahlonega
we stopped to eat at the
Wagon Wheel.
After we finished eating
we set out for Wahsega.
Little did we know the road
which was paved a year ago,
wasn’t paved anymore. This
threw us off track (lost) but
eventually we reached our
destination.

After an assembly, many
of us went outside and
played various games. After
this short break, we went
inside and watched a movie
on tornadoes. You see, this
weekend at Senior Rally, we
were taught First Aid. After
the movie we had two
classes on First Aid. Then
we had recreation and sup
per. After supper, we had the
talent show in which Michael
Smallwood (who joined us
later) and his sister Sheri,
sang us a few tunes. Later
after the show, we had a
dance.
Finally it was time to get
some much needed rest from
this hectic day.
Early the next morning we
had our own little disaster.
Many of the leaders were
dressed as though they were
injured and we had to admin
ister First Aid. After our
disaster, we cleaned up our
cabins and set out for home.

Summer Camp
Educational
By DEDE THOMAS
Summer Camp! One of the
most thrilling weeks you
could spend in the summer is
going to 4-H Summer Camp.
The camps are Camp Ful
ton in Fulton County, Wah
sega located in Dahlonega,
Camp Chatham in Savan
nah, Rock Eagle in Eatonton
and the newest camp will by
Jekyll Island 4-H Camp at
Jekyll Island, Georgia.
There are many different
activities at all of these
camps. At Chatham, the
theme is Pirates. Our day
time activities included
classes in ocean life, going
crab fishing, pirate lore,
swimming at Tybee beach,
playing on the waterslide
and touring Ft. Pulaski.
Each night we had a dance.
At Camp Wahsega, the
theme was Mountain lore
and customs. Some of the
many different classes were
folk lore, insect classes, and
everyone shoots five rounds
for a possible 1500 points. I
finished second in the state
this year, only 13 points be
hind the winner.
Scott Kirby and I were the
only two who had shot at the
District competition before.

home remedies. At night we
listened to ghost stories and
hunted bears in the woods.
We played many different
games and also played in the
beautiful mountain streams
and waterfall.
At Rock Eagle the theme
is Indians and Indian Cus
toms. We had classes in art,
sailing, food classes, ca
noeing, Indian war paint,
and many other Indian cus
toms. Swimming and Putt-
Putt were popular daytime
activities also. Night-time
activities included dances, a
movie, counselor talent show
and the Indian Padgent.
Camp is not all play. You
learn many things while you
play. During the week’s
games and activities you will
make many new friends and
meet more nice people than
you could meet in a week
anywhere else. Why not plan
to go next year?
So with more practice this
year, we are going to try our
best to win the District team
award and possibly the State
trophy. We would like to en
courage any senior 4-H’ers
to come and try out for the
team.
