Drop Out Mentality
Our society seems to be
developing a “Drop Out
Mentality.” If marriage and
family life become hard and
time-consuming, many drop
out and seek to find someone
else who will make life eas
ier. After a while the new
relationship may develop the
same symptoms and if unat
tended the same sicknesses
can crop up and the urge to
drop out and run away is a
little stronger and easier to
do.
We all receive hurts and
inflict hurts in the living of
our lives, and many of the
hurts go underground, bur
ied in the sub-conscious until
they erupt at some later time
over an issue that may only
be distantly related to the
original pain. Why do we feel
that hiding our hurts will
make them go away? If we
would deal with our pain
with the proper person(s)
and healed them over, they
would be gone.
School can get tough; the
excitement of the working
world and that car or apart
ment can lure us to drop out
of school until suddenly, we
find the world out there to be
hard, and that we needed
that education after all to
compete for what we want in

Rev. Lester Buice, Pastor
Emeritus of Rehoboth Bap
tist Church, in Tucker, will
be the guest speaker at a
jubilee service on Wednes
day, Oct. 13, at Shores of
Lanier Baptist Church. The
church has retired its debts,
and is celebrating with a
special service.
Shores of Lanier was orga
nized in 1969, by a group of
concerned Christians living
in the Pilgrim Mill Road
area, near Lake Lanier. Un
der the leadership of Rev.
Ernest Parks, the first build
ing program was completed.
Seven years later, in May
of 1976, a second building
program was completed
with a SIO,OOO loan from For
syth County Bank, and a
tremendous amount of vol
unteer labor.
Many people have contrib
uted both labor and gifts to
the church, to make it a
facility capable of serving
the needs of the individuals
who worship there, and the
community.
The special service will
begin at 7 p.m. There will be
music by quartet groups,
and immediately following
the service, refreshments
will be served.

life.
This happens in churches
too. People who once were
active drop out for various
reasons such as the follow
ing:
(1) HURT FEELINGS.
Something happens in a
class or small group in which
a person feels slighted or
offended. The feeling is mag
nified when no one notices
that the person has dropped
out. Perhaps no one even
knows the person was hurt
because the hurt was never
expressed to anyone.
(2) THE EMPTY NEST.
When the children are grown
and gone, husbands and
wives who were active in
church solely because of the
children, no longer seem to
have a good reason to go.
They drop out.
(3) AFFLUENCE. A vaca
tion home demands to be
used. Trips and other newly
affordable outings usually
occur on the weekends. The
Sunday School and church
“habit” is broken and not
easily recovered. Interest
and involvement are lost so
they drop out.
(4) BURNOUT. Some
members view the church
work as a burden. They are
not able, for one reason or
another, to receive renewing
strength from the fellowship
of the church. They drop out
in exhaustion.
If you find yourself drop
ping out on life, take hold of
yourself and bring back the
fullness of life. Life is too
short to waste by dropping
out. Each time you come
back, you you will have to
start all over again. Think
about it.

Having your heating equipment checked
and serviced annually pays off because your
heating system will operate at maximum
efficiency and lowest cost. And if other
adjustments are needed, repairs can be made
before more serious and costly problems
occur. You may also need assistance in
relighting the pilot light.
To get ready for winter, call a licensed

dealers. But don’t wait, because heating
contractors start getting busy with the first

The Best Medicine
God would have us meet
life with the merry heart and
the happy face. The writer of
the Proverbs has a saying
which the Authorized Ver
sion translates: “A merry
heart doeth good like a medi
cine.” (Prov. 17:22). But if
we look in the margin, we
find another translation: “A
merry heart doeth good to a
medicine.” Moffatt has it,
“A glad heart helps and
heals.” The A.R.S.V. has it,
“A cheerful heart is a good
medicine.”
A medicine will do far
more good to a man with a
happy heart than it will do to
a gloomy and pessimistic
soul. A doctor can hardly
write in his prescription, “Jo
be taken three times a day
with a merry heart,” but he
certainly would, if he could.
It is a medical fact that those

If you find out your present heating system
needs to be replaced, inquire about the new
high-efficiency gas heating equipment, and
stay warm for less.
These early fall days are also a good time
for weatherizing your home. Caulking and
weatherstripping around doors, windows
and loose fitting boards can help reduce
heat loss.
If you'd like more information on
conservation measures you can take to
save energy and make your home more

Yet all of us, I venture to
say, sometimes think of our
relationship with God in just
this tit-for-tat manner. “I’ll
scratch your back, Lord (go
to church, say my prayers,
do a good deed daily), if
you’ll scratch mine.”
It doesn’t work that way.

many congregations who are
a little shocked, if they are
compelled to smile.
Somehow they cannot con

CRAFT IS THE MOST TROUBLE-FREE STOVE ON THE
MARKET. WE USE THE FINEST FIREBOX STEEL
AVAILABLE. PLUS THE SQUIRREL-CAGE BLOWER, THE
SAME TYPE BLOWER USED IN MOST CONVENTIONAL
HEATING SYSTEMS. YOU CAN USE YOUR CRAFT STOVE
WHEN THE POWER IS OFF WITHOUT WORRYING ABOUT
DAMAGING YOUR BLOWER. SOME STOVE MANUFAC
TURERS USE PLASTIC BLADE FANS THAT TEND TO BE
VERY NOISY. WHEN SHOPPING FOR A STOVE, ASK TO
SEE BLOWER BEFORE PURCHASING.
WILL A CRAFT STOVE FiREPLACE INSERT REALLY HEAT MY HOUSE?
Yes, many customers never again use their conventional home heating systems.
Regardless of whether they have used oil, gas, electicity or whatever, they slash
their heating bills to the bone. Even if you have to buy your wood, you still save
dramatically and everyone knows that wood heat is WARMTH.
Your fireplace is a wood waster! Ninety percent (90%) of the heat goes
straight up the chimney, which is the same as saying that your fireplace is at best
only 10% efficient. Since the heat comes from the logs this means that every
time you put 10 logs in your fireplace you are only getting heat from one (10%)
of the logs. The other nine logs (90%) are wasted. Your Craft Stove fireplace in
sert will operate up to 80% efficiency and one filling of wood will burn from 8-20
hours.
HOW DOES IT DO IT?
There are 4 Craft Stove fireplace models designed to heat up to 3000 square
feet. Through the natural principles of radiation and convection and the powerful
forced air blower, there should not be 6-10 degrees difference in the room with
the stove and the farthest room away.
