Cake baking is an Old
World art but American in
genuity has developed some
unique recipes.
! Salad dressing cake, for
one. Some people make it
with mayonnaise.
, Sauerkraut chocolate cake
' is another oddity that tastes
a lot better than it sounds. In
, fact, most people think the
' kraut crunch comes from
coconut. The recipe was de
veloped in the 1960 s by a
school foodservice nutrition
ist to use kraut in the school
lunch program.
Tomato soup cake, devel
oped by The Campbell Soup
Co., was first published in
one of the company’s recipe
booklets in 1925. Versions of
it have been showing up in
other people’s cookbooks
ever since.

chocolate instead of cocoa,
cake flour instead of all pur
pose and chopped dates and
nuts, which are missing
from the Kraft and Hagan
Citrus Punch
6-ounce can frozen concen
trate for lemonade, partly
thawed
‘ 2 cups orange juice
12-ounce bottle ginger ale,
chilled
Turn lemonade concen
trate into a 1-quart con
* tainer; add orange juice and
stir until concentrate thaws;
’ add ginger ale and stir. Mix
ture will be foamy. Pour at
once into 8-ounce glasses
filled with ice cubes, to serve
as a non-alcoholic beverage.
For a spirited punch, fill the
glsses with ice, add a jigger
of vodka or gin and fill to the
* top with the citrus mixture.

sugar and vanilla. Add com
