Child Welfare Growth Leader For DFACS
Child welfare programs
have accounted for the big
gest growth in the service
area of the Forsyth County
Department of Family and
Children Services.
That’s according to an an
nual report released by the
department last week, cov
ering fiscal years 1981 (July
1, 1980 to June 30, 1981) and
1982 (July 1,1981 to June 30,
1982).
In the area of child welfare
programs, the report says,
“resources within the
agency and community are
becoming more limited. We
are obtaining temporary
custody of more teenagers
and have few placement fa
cilities available for them.”
The number of children
referred for protective serv
ices in Fiscal Year 1981 (FY
‘81) was 229 and 278 for Fis
cal Year 1982 (FY ‘B2).
Corps Notes
Its Changes
In Park Sites
Acting Resource Manager
Harvie Jordan announced
recently that 41 recreation
areas operated by the Army
Corps of Engineers at Lake
Lanier will be open to the
public this year.
Jordan says that continued
federal funding cuts have
caused the Corps to take a
hard look at the cost effec
tiveness of some of the lesser
used parks.
During 1983 only the boat
launching ramps will remain
open at Vann’s Tavern, Toto
Creek, Lumpkin, Long Hol
low, Simpson and Robinson
parks.
Nix Bridge, Little Hall and
Clark’s Bridge parks which
were marginal camping
areas have been restruc
tured as “Day Use Only”
parks to reduce costs and to
discourage undesirable
night time activities.
At the same time, Jordan
said, additional im
provements have been made
in several of the more popu
lar parks with monies allo
cated as part of a program to
repair Lanier’s aging recre
ation areas.
