Pharmacy
agreement
signed
Forsyth County Hospital has signed
a three-year management agreement
for pharmacy services which should
lower annual operating costs approxi
mately $20,000.
The Owen Company, a hospital
pharmacy firm which provides phar
macy services to more than 100 hospi
tals throughout the country, was
selected to provide management
services, effective this month.
Craig Hethcox, administrator of
Forsyth County Hospital, said, “Be
cause of Owen’s extensive pharmacy
management experience and their
massive group purchasing programs,
the hospital will be able to save
money while improving the efficiency
with which the pharmacy is operated.
“Using a specialist firm like Owen
allows us to improve our pharmacy
facilities and services without a capi
tal expenditure on the hospital’s
part.”
The Owen Company, which is based
in Houston, has regional offices in
Atlanta.

Ramp closing
launches load
of petitions
By Doug Aliinger
The Sunday Not
A group of Sinclair Shores residents
are taking the U.S. Army Corps of
Engineers to task by circulating peti
tions protesting the sudden closing of
the boat ramps at Bald Ridge Park.
The ramps at the park were closed
two weeks ago to the general public
and are now available only to camp
ers at the park, according to Mark
Summers, chief ranger at Lake Lan
ier.
Bald Ridge Park is being renovated
as part of an ongoing Corps of Engi
neers project. Renovation at the park
will result in the conversion of a
former day-use area into 75 new
camping sites, Summers said.
Hank Burzynski, a resident of Sin
clair Shores, said hie started a petition
drive to gauge local opinion of the
closing of the boat ramps at Bald
Ridge Park.
“The park is right in our neighbor
hood, so for one thing, we will no
longer have a convenient place to
launch our boats,” Burzynski said.
“Tidwell Park, the next nearest
ramp, is 3.5 miles farther by road and
five miles farther by boat from Sin
clair Shores,” he said, adding that,
“because it is right on the main lake,
Tidwell is a very difficult location to
launch a boat.”
“I just don’t see the economics of it.
The Corps of Engineers will deny
thousands of people a good place to
swim and launch their boats just to
create 75 new campsites,” he said.
Johnny Chiles, manager of Boat
Care Marine Service, said the ramp
closing could also affect his dry-dock
business. “If people have to haul their
boats five miles to Tidwell or even

farther to Mary Alice or Bald Ridge
Marina, they may not keep their
boats here,” he said.
Burzynski, a member of the For
syth County Volunteer Fire Depart
ment, said the closing of the ramps at
Bald Ridge Park could also create
problems for fire tanker trucks need
ing to get to the ramp to draft water.
“Our goal is not necessarily for the
Corps to scrap their entire plan,”
Burzynski said. “We just want them
to take the local residents into consid
eration. I’m sure some kind of com
promise can be reached if they are
willing to talk,” he said.
Special permits for local residents
who want to use the Bald Ridge Park
ramps could perhaps be issued, Bur
zynski added.
The petitions are being circulated
by a number of Sinclair Shores resi
dents and are also available at seve
ral local stores, he added.
