the Single of the Year, Album of the
Year and Country Music Group of the
Year from every music trade publi
cation three times over.
Only the Oak Ridge Boys, among
all of today’s super successful acts,
can trace their musical roots bade
some 35 years to east central Tennes
see and a struggling band of gospel
singes.
Until 1942, the place was a quiet
rural community of marginal farm
land supporting three small villages,
and certainly no national reputation.
One year later, that two-county tract
was bursting with 75,000 busy people,
and Oak Ridge, Tenn., was marked in
American history.
Out of neighboring Knoxville canoe
the country-gospel quartet known as
the Country Cut-ups, four singers and
a piano accompanist. The group trav
eled repeatedly to perform for the
folks at Oak Ridge mid soon became
known in the area and folks began
house.
• Lyle Morrison, R-l (Residential—
Single-Family) to CBD, 11.247 acres
at the southeast comer of Old Atlanta
Road and Georgia 400. Morrison says
the rezoning is being sought for con
struction of office- and warehouse
type buildings.
• Jimmy Hulsey, A to R-3 (Resi
dential—Multi-Family), 4.60 acres on
Sanders Road, between Georgia 20
east and Buford Dam Road. Hulsey
says the property is intended for
construction of luxury apartments.
• Joyce and Frank Hester, VC
(Vacation Cottages) to VCR (Vaca
tion Cottage*—Restricted), Lanier
Forest subdivision. The restrictive
classification is being sought to up
grade the standards erf the subdivi
sion.
The above items will be considered
at a public hearing Tuesday, Oct. 30,
at 7:30 pan. in the Jury Assembly
Room, located on the top floor of
Forsyth County Courthouse.
In other business at Tuesday
calling them the Oak Ridge Quartet.
About 20 years ago, the group began
billing themselves as the Oak Ridge
Boys.
Bill Golden joined the Oak Ridge
Boys in 1964, and is the present day
Oak with the longest tenure. Duane
Allen was invited into the group in
1966; Richard Sterban in 1972 and Joe
Bonsall in 1973.
The four followed the gospel tradi
tions of their predecessors until May
of 1977 when they changed to country
pop style.
Though the Oak Ridge Boys own
two publishing companies and a re
cording studio together in the Nash
ville suburb of Hendersonville, they
are Close friends as well as business
associates. Each has his own respon
sibilities in keeping the group running
smoothly, and each maintains that
their friendships have helped them
rise above any problems that under-
night’s meeting, the planning com
mission granted renewal of a special
use permit to Charlotte Peters, to
operate a sewing business in her
home cm Bonnie Brae Road.

The Slatons.
The singing begins at 7 p.m. and is

Auto accidents are a frequent cause of spinal injuries.
Even those collisions in which, apparently, no one is hurt,
may have claimed innocent victims whose injuries were
not immediately evident. In the absence of blood or
broken bones, tne victim may assume that he or she has
escaped unharmed, when actually strained or damaged
ligaments and muscles may allow vertebrae to skip and
cause nerve interference that will show up later with
pain and loss of function.
