Changing health topic
for local BPW meet
The changing health environment
was one of the many topics addressed
by Craig Hethcox, administrator of
Forsyth County Hospital, in a recent
meeting of the Cumming-Forsyth
County Business and Professional
Women (BPW).
Hethcox said, “Omni Health Serv
ices is sincere about the kind of
hospital they want in Cumming,” and
that he is “proud to be associated
with them."
Currently, cardiopulmonary serv
ices, physical therapy, daily calls to
Fine Arts Scholarship
established at NGC
North Georgia College has an
nounced the establishment of the
Gloria Shott Fine Arts Scholarship,
which will be awarded for academic
excellence and superior talent or
performance in the fine arts.
The scholarship is named to honor
the late Gloria Shott, a professional
actress who was active in support of
the fine arts at the Dahlonega college
and throughout the region.
Mrs. Shott was director of several
plays at North Georgia, directed and
acted in readers theatres and dinner
theatres at the school and also served
as a lecturer.

Hethcox, the services of an ophthal
mologist also will be available.

prehensive Emergency First Aid
Chart, sponsored by the American
College of Emergency Physicians, to
emphasize Emergency Medicine
Week.
Her husband, Dr. Hugh I. Shott 11,
is vice president for academic affairs
at North Georgia College.
The initial scholarship will be
awarded for the 1985-86 academic
year, and interested students should
contact the Scholarship Committee,
Department of Fine Arts, North
Georgia College.
Applications are welcomed from
students in all areas of the perform
ing and creative arts. Persons re
questing more information should
contact the business office at the
college.
Slide presentations
available to groups
A series of seven slide presenta
tions on subjects ranging from crime
prevention to child abuse are avail
able free of charge to local schools
and civic groups from the City of
Cumming Police Department.
Cumming Police Chief Ricky Pad
gett said he purchased the set of
slides and accompanying cassette
tape narratives as part of an effort to
educate local citizens of their role in
crime prevention and detection.
Especially with drug abuse and
drunk driving, Padgett said be feels
education is vital to battling prob
lems associated with crime.
“If more people are aware of the
consequences and effects of drug
abuse or drunk driving, I think we
have a good bit of the problem on its
way to being solved,” Padgett said.
The presentations, which Padgett
said are geared to a wide variety of
age groups, are available for loan
from the police department.

program and answer questions, or
groups can borrow them and use the

The crime prevention/education
program is sponsored by a number of
local businesses and civic groups,
including the Forsyth County Rotary
Club; Ken VanderHoff and Walker
Bramblett; Lanier, Huffman and
Robinson Insurance; Don Hartsfield
and Associates; Forsyth County Inde
pendent Insurance Agents Associa
tion; Forsyth County Bank; and
People’s Bank of Forsyth County.
Chorale begins
its rehearsals
The Cumming Chorale has begun
weekly rehearsals on Thursday
nights at 7:30 pjn., in Beaver Ruin
Baptist Church on Pilgrim Mill Road.
Interested singers are invited to
attend rehearsals, and can contact
the director, Ruth Rood, at 887-0034,
or the president, Mary Stansell, at
