Mattingly gets
NFIB award
WASHINGTON - U &. Sen. Mack
Mattingly (R-Ga.) has earned the
‘Guardian of Small Business” award
from the National Federation of Inde
pendent Business (NFIB) for his out
standing voting record on small
business issues.
His record was ranked the Senate’s
best cm 14 recorded votes during this
session of Congress.
The nation's largest small business
group presented him with the award
for his fiscally conservative support
of positions voiced by the majority of
NFIB members. Mattingly’s 93 per
cent voting record was tied by just
five other senators.
Upon announcing the award, NFIB
President John Sloan said, “The vot
ing record of Sat. Mattingly through
out this Congress demonstrates that
he is responsive to the needs of his
state, because small businesses cre
ate the majority of new jobs and, if
left to flourish, will continue to be the
driving force behind this country’s
resurgent economic growth.”
Issues in the NFIB survey ranged
from cutting the federal deficit to
controlling payroll taxes to giving
small firms a chance to compete for
government contracts. Members of
Congress who failed to vote on at
least 70 percent of the issues counted
in the ratings were not eligible for the
award.
