Indian Summer fest in Suches
SUCHES The Seventh Annual
Indian Summer Festival will be held
on Oct. 6 and 7 at Suches, Valley
Above the Clouds.
The craft fair consists of arts,
crafts, all-day entertainment with
local talent and barbecue served
throughout the day.

The ’ Indian Summer Bond,” which includes a natlva of Forsyth County, has won first place In the
Southiake Mall/WPLO Search for the South Talent Contest. Fran Westray Munday, a liftime resident of
Forsyth, joins Dennis Tibbits, Ricky Rakestraw and Steve Sosebee making up the bluegrass band In
the competition. The Labor Day competition was the culmination of a five-week country and western
! Blent search c * l * br «tlng the eighth anniversary of Southiake Mali. Southiake Mall and
WPLO Radio have sponsored this annual event since 1977. Prizes awarded to Indian Summer include
roundtrip air fare for each band member to Nashville to perform at Opryland, a $590 paid appearance
at Mama Wynette’s East, a SI,OOO wardrobe from C & M Western Wear and a record library of 59
albums from Turtles Records. Fran Munday is shown in the center of the photo with other band

Lilburn Daze festival set
Oct. 6-13 in ‘Old Town’
LI IJB URN Lilbum Daze, the 11th
Annual Festival celebration, will be
held Oct. 6-13 in Old Town lilbum.
lilbum Daze is co-sponsored by the
lilbum Woman’s Club and the City of
Lilbum. Judy Fogle, chairman of this
year’s event, predicts that the 1984
celebration will be the largest in the
festival’s history.
To kick-off the event, there will be a
Junior Championship Tennis Tourna
ment and a “Journey for Sight” Fun
Run sponsored by the Bethesda lions
Club on Oct. 6 and 7. During the week,
there will be special events at the
lilbum Public Library.
On Saturday, Oct. 13, the day-long
arts and crafts festival features mu
sic, dancers, 175 artisans, an antique
furniture show and sale, home cooked
foods, exhibits, children’s finger
printing safety project, craft demon
strations, the Georgia Conestoga
Wagon and a good time for all ages.
Under the chairmanship of Fogle,
the festival has adopted a permanent
logo designed by local commercial
artist, Terry Huey, and will be dis
played on all decorations and direc
tional signs for the festival.

Gilley, McClain
set in Hiawassee
Mickey Gilley and Charly McClain
will appear in concert at 7 p.m. and 10
p.m., Saturday, Oct. 13, at the
Georgia Mountain Fair in Hiawassee.
Appearing in the Anderson Music
Hall, the two will be a part of the
fair’s 1984 “Schedule of Stars” con
certs.
Gilley grew up in Ferriday, LA.,
along with his cousins Jerry Lee
Lewis and Rev. Jimmy Swaggart. As
kids, they all displayed a talent for
the piano that is now known world
wide.
Charly McClain was climbing the
charts as a single act when she
played the Georgia Mountain Fair in
1979. Such hits as “Lay Down” “Let
Me Be Your Baby” were quickly
followed by “When a Love Ain’t
Right” and “Surround Me With
Love” with “Dancing Your Memory
Away” and more.
