Marriage to bring one child too many?
DEAR ABBY: I have a sticky situa
tion I could use same help with. I’m
divorced with three kids —18,17 and
11. I’ve raised them with no ehilH
support for the last eight years.
I want to marry a nice guy I’ll call
Sam. He also married before and has
two kids, now 11 and 12, by Doris, his
ex-wife. Doris is married again and
has a three-year-old daughter (Suzy)
by her present husband. She’s expect
ing another baby any minute.
In the past, Sam has been taking his
kids every other weekend. Ever since
Suzy has been old enough to walk,
Doris has been sending her along to
Sam’s with his two kids. He has had to
stop and pick up Pampers and milk
for Suzy, who isn’t even his! Sam
feels that he should continue to pick
up Suzy after we’re married. I feel
Doris would just be using me, and if
she could get away with sending Suzy
to me, she would probably send the
next kid, too.
I’m 36, have a good Job and I like
my peace and quiet. I love Sam, and
don’t have any trouble welcoming his
11- and 12-year-old kids, but I’ll be
darned if I’m going to baby-sit with
his ex-wife’s kids by her second hus
band so she can have a free weekend.
By the way, Doris doesn’t work.
Do you think I’m being selfish and
unreasonable?
- HATES TO BE USED
DEAR HATES: Absolutely not.
You have no obligation to Doris’
children by her second husband, and
neither has Sam. I urge you to settle
this with Sam before you marry him.
It’s just this type of “misunderstand
ing” that can sour a second mar
riage.

DEAR ABBY: My husband and I
want to start a family. Twelve years
ago, when I was 17,1 had an abortion
in the early stages of pregnancy.
There were no complications.
I do not want it on my medical
record. My husband does not know
about it, and if he were to find out, the

The 18th Annual Harvest Curb Mar

new activities this year, according to
sponsors, Home Federal Savings and
Loan Association.
To celebrate the arrival of the
harvest in north Georgia, a special

The Green Com Walk was origi

kee Indians to celebrate the harvest.
The walk will include 1,3, and 5 mile
jaunts through such historical sites as
Mule Camp Springs and the Byron
Mitchell Meat Market. Walkers may
start between 8:30 a.m. and 11 a.m.,
and 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. on Saturday,
leaving from the comer of Washing
ton and Green Streets.
Held in Home Federal’s Conference
Center, the quilt show will consist of
100 handmade quilts displayed for the
public. A "People's Choice Award,"
cash prizes for first, second and third
place and honorable mention ribbons
will be given for the favorite quilts.
Quilts made by citizens from through
out the area will be displayed.
The "Shindig On the Green" will
feature clowns, balloons, face paint
ing, cotton candy and animal petting.
Other features include The Bean
House, Doc Crocker, and his medi
cine show, barbecue and fresh moun
tain produce along with handmade
crafts.
The Curb Market will be held Oct.

Dear

consequences could be devastating.
Can my gynecologist tell if I’ve had
an abortion?
- NO NAME, PLEASE
DEAR NO NAME: No. If yours was
a routine, complete abortion with no
complications, there is no way a
gynecologist can detect it

DEAR ABBY: I am sitting here
brokenhearted over a problem that
could have been resolved years ago.
My father died last week; my mother
died a year ago. Although we were
very close when I was younger, they
stopped speaking to me six years ago
when I decided to live with my boyf
riend, whom I have since married.
When I first told my parents I was
moving in with my boyfriend, they
called me “slut, tramp" and a few
other names you can’t print.
I was over 21 and wasn’t hurting
myself or anybody else, but after this
move, they wanted nothing more to
do with me. When I invited them to
my wedding, they didn’t even re
spond.
Now that they are gone, I feel angry
and Utter that they could let this one
difference come between us forever.
They missed the opportunity of shar
ing their lives with me, my husband
and our son.
Why am I writing? Because I hope
you will print this as a plea to other
parents who feel the way mine did
about living together. Please, par
ents, don’t lock your children out of
your lives because their ideas differ
from yours.
- NO NAME, PLEASE
DEAR NO NAME: Here’s your
letter. I’m sure many parents will
identify with it. My mall tells me that

DEAR ABBY: My wife and I were
going to take our grandchildren, ages
eight and 10, to the movies last Satur
day, and we ended up having ice
cream and going home without seeing
a movie.
Do you know why? I will tell you
why. There were nine movies play
ing, and not one was a family movie.
They were all rated PG, PG-13 and R.
Abby, the movies used to be a
family pleasure. Why doesn’t the
movie industry make family enter
tainment anymore? We have to see
reruns of “Snow White” and
“Bambi” until we have them mem
orized.
We need some good, funny, clean,
old-fashioned movies. Abby, what
