Sunny forecast
Good news on the weather front: There’s no end in
sight to the gorgeous fall weather the Gwinnett area
has enjoyed for the last two weeks.
Sunday will be mostly sunny and warm with a
high in the low 80s. Sunday night will see clear skies
with lows in the mid-50s.
The extended outlook calls for more of the same
weather Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Bright
sunshine will prevail during the daytime throughout
the period with clear skies continuing at night.
Highs will be in the low 80s with lows in the mid-SOs.

Around tho nation
Cloudy skies and thunderstorms spanned Mid
west and Plains states Saturday, with more than 9
inches of rain soaking parts of Kansas and dense fog
covering the nation’s midsection.
Fog was scattered throughout northern Illinois,
Wisconsin, Minnesota, throughout the Ohio Valley
and south into Tennessee early Saturday.
Visibility was reported near zero in western New
York near the Lake Ontario shore and was down to
half a mile or less in eastern and central Wisconsin.
Travelers advisories for dense fog were issued
Saturday for states in the Great Indies, western
New England and the Ohio Valley.
Heavy thunderstorms swept through southeast
ern Kansas into southern Missouri early Saturday.
Nine inches of rain fell at Elgin, Kan., and more
than an inch hit Chanute, Kan.
Flash flood watches were in effect Saturday for
southern and eastern Texas.
Overnight thunderstorms brought golf ball-size
hail to Smithland. Texas, and hail an inch in
diameter to Trees. La.
Gale warnings were posted from the outer banks
of North Carolina to Virginia Beach, Va., because of
winds from Hurricane Josephine located about
240 miles east of Cape Hatteras N.C.
In the West, warnings of gale-strength winds were
posted for the coast of Washington and rain reached
from the Pacific Northwest across the northern
coast of California.
Travelers advisories were also posted for locally
heavy snow over the higher mountain passes of
Colorado.
Showers moved across the northwestern states
where overnight lows dipped into the 30s and 40s.
The mercury fell to 26 degrees at Gunnison, Colo.,
while Laramie, Wyo., had a low of 25 degrees.
Applications taken
for children's care
The Forsyth County Day Care Center is accepting
applications from families who have a need for
quality day care for their children ages six months
to four years.
Eligibility is determined by income. For further
information, interested persons may call the center
at 887-7701.
The center is also accepting applications for
substitute teachers and is an equal opportunity

Approximately 3,000 folks gathered in the big
top tent here Thursday evening to watch
performers of the Roberts Brothers Circus
display talents in two shows. There were
games and prizes, balloons, clowns, and magic
tricks in the three-ring circus, held here to
benefit the American Cancer Society. Through
advance ticket sales, the Forsyth County Chap
ter of the Cancer Society earned more than S 1
500 to go toward next year’s goal. In the

Actor Hexum wounded on set
Television actor JON-ERIK
HEXUM was in critical condition
Saturday after five hours of surgery
for accidentally shooting himself in
the head.
Hexum shot himself in the right
temple with a prop gun loaded with
blanks during a break in filming the
CBS series “Cover-Up” on the 20th
Century-Fox set in Hollywood.
A studio spokesman said Hexum,
27, a former Michigan State
University football player, suffered
an explosion wound on his right
temple Friday and was taken to
Beverly Hills Medical Center.
Hexum, star of the former TV
series "Voyagers” and a cover model
for the November issue of Playgirl
magazine, was on a set depicting a
hotel room and was holding a .44
caliber magnum between takes when
he accidentally shot himself, studio
spokesman Chuck Panama said.
About 40 people wot on the set for
the filming of the weekly series,
which co-stars former model
JENNIFER O’NEILL. She was not
on the set at the time, Panama said.
O'Neill, star of the movie “The
Summer of ’42,” wounded herself
with a handgun two years ago at her
White Plains, N.Y., estate.
Panama said prop guns do not
contain a projectile but do carry
explosive charges.
Jackson soars
While MICHAEL JACKSON may
send his fans soaring during
performances, the superstar singer
apparently has taken a fancy to some
atmospherics of Ms own.
At least twice in recent months he
has floated over Orlando, Fla., in a
hot air balloon.

On the latest flight Thursday,
Jackson, 26, was accompanied by
EMMANUEL LEWIS, 13, star of the
television series “Webster.‘They
were among about 15 people who took
off at dawn in eight red and yellow
balloons piloted by employees of the
Rosie O’Grady's entertainment
complex.
On a previous ride, Jackson waved
and whooped to people on the ground,
but Thursday the Grammy-award
winning star was quieter, said pilot
STEVE ADAMS.
“It was a very placid ride,” Adams
said. “He didn’t say much.”
Bumott recovering
Comedian CAROL BURNETT is
spending several weeks in Europe as
she continues to recover from an
accompanying photos of circus action, Circus
star “Lee Ann” is shown with her talented
dogs, walking the high wire and jumping from
great heights. Children had a chance to pet and
ride an elephant and participate in a ring toss
and other games. In the face painting photo,
Kenneth Maxwell, gets all painted up with
different colors and designs. A booth with lots
of goodies also helped net the cancer society
additional funds.

Friday.
Miss Burnett, 50, suffered a
recurrence of a flu virus that kept her
out of the Emmy telecast Sept. 23 and
caused her to withdraw from a TV
movie, “The Late Christopher
Bean,” co-starring JAMES
STEWART.
Hope bombs out
After more than three decades on
the road, comedian 808 HOPE says
he’s never “had a show canceled on
account of a bomb” until the
discovery of an undetanated World
War II German device found during
his first tour of England in 30 years.
“Maybe the Germans are getting
even for me doing all those U.S.O.
shows," said Hope after the 550-
pound bomb was discovered Friday
behind the Guildhall in Portsmouth,
where Hope was to make one of six
scheduled appearances of his week
long tour.
Authorities cordoned off the area
and called in bomb disposal experts.
“You know, funny thing, I don’t
remember one time that we’ve had
that kind of trouble,” said Hope, 81,
who has long toured UJS. military
bases and navy ships sometimes
within range of enemy guns for the
United Service Organizations.
