Two Forsyth County men walked
away from a plane crash Thursday
afternoon near Mathis Airport.
The single-engine Cessna 150 crash
landed around 4:20 p.m. in a wooded
area behind the home of Margaret
Stow, mi Mathis Airport Road.
The pilot, Jerry Kirby, 38, suffered
facial injuries. He was listed in fair
condition at Forsyth County Hospital
Friday morning.
A passenger, 26-year-old Danny
Robinson, suffered no injuries.
Alex Dukas, an investigator with
the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Depart
ment, said the two occupants of the
plane unstrapped themselves and
walked away from the wreckage fol
lowing the crash.
The accident occurred near the
homes of both men. Robinson is a
resident of Mathis Airport Road and
Kirby lives on Georgia 141.
According to Robinson, Kirby was

bringing the plane down in an appar
ent attempt to land, but when he tried
to raise the altitude high enough to
avoid some trees, the plane wouldn’t
respond.
‘The motor was running, but it just
didn’t have the power (to go up),’’
Robinson said, noting the plane had
been in the air only about 10 minutes.
Robinson, who apparently blacked
out for a few seconds, said he couldn’t
remember past the point when the
plane struck the trees behind Mrs.
Stow’s home. He was flying only for
the second time in his life.
Dukas said the National Safety and
Transportation Board is conducting
an investigation of the crash and
should issue a report in about six
months.
He said authorities were planning
to shift the plane to an upright posi
tion Friday afternoon so it could be
dismantled.
According to GMAPDC staff, some
of the benefits of ridesharing to em
ployers include: reducing the de
mand for parking space, reducing
congestion at company entrance
gates and access roads, improving
attendance and punctuality, and en
hance a company’s image as a cor
porate citizen.
Employees may benefit through
savings in gasoline and money, re
duce a family’s need for a second car,
assure an alternative for non drivers
and promote more relaxed travel.

Auto accidents ore a frequent cause of spinal injuries.
Even those collisions in which, apparently, no one is hurt,
may have claimed innocent victims whose injuries were
not immediately evident. In the absence of blood or
broken bones, the victim may assume that he or she has
escaped unharmed, when actually strained or damaged
ligaments and muscles may allow vertebrae to skip and
cause nerve interference that will show up later with
pain and loss of function.
