due for Governor’s Award
Robert L. Owens, head of the Fine
Arts department of North Georgia
College in Dahlonega, has been se
lected as one of eight Georgian indi
viduals and institutions to receive a
1985 Governor’s Award in the Arts.
Sponsored by the Georgia Council for
the Arts, the award recognizes out
standing contributions to the arts in
Georgia.
Owens has been a member of the
NGC faculty since 1965 and head of
the Fine Arts Department since 1971.

Cumming Chorale
rehearsal planned
Singers interested in joining the
Cumming Chorale are invited to at
tend rehearsals every Thursday eve
ning at 7:30 p.m. in the Deer Creek
Shores Presbyterian Church.
The rehearsals begin Feb. 7 and a
concert is scheduled for April 11. The
music is a combination of sacred and
classical, with some popular songs
included.

conduct classes
Lanierland Amateur Radio Club
will conduct classes leading to a
novice amateur radio license, begin
ning at 7 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 11 at
Lanier Tech.
The classes are free and will con
tinue for 11 weeks. The only cost will
be for the text and any material used.

Arts group
to tour exhibit
Members of the Sawnee Associa
tion of the Arts invite the public to
join them in a walking tour of the
Andrew Wyeth exhibit, to be con
ducted by John Collock on Tuesday,
Feb. 12.
Participants will leave from The
Gallery, located at 233 Atlanta Road,
in Cumming. Admission will be $2.
