Advertising agency finds its niche
By Dawn Holcomb
The Sunday News
One speaks; the other designs.
That’s the graphics behind a new
advertising agency in Cumming and
Forsyth County Advertising Alter
native.
Developed by Sandra Kirkland and
Katharina Whitmire, their interest is
in serving the local market “We’re
a local ad agency,” said Ms. Whit
mire. “We have reasonable rates and
instead of going to Atlanta, we can
serve corporations, businesses, mag
azines and whoever needs or wants to
advertise.”
Where the speak and design comes
in is...
Ms. Kirkland worked in marketing
and management for a number of
years. In her new firm, she does the
copywriting and the presentation,
Health Fair slated for May 18
Plans are under way for Forsyth
County’s Second Annual Health Fair,
to be held Saturday, May 18.
The health fair is co-sponsored by
Forsyth County Hospital and the For
syth-Cumming Optimist Club.
Last year, several hundred county
residents attended the health fair,
where local health organizations pro
vided a variety of health screenings,
including blood pressure, glaucoma,
Linda Clemons opens frame shop
Linda Clemons of Forsyth County
has taken a skill she learned from a
previous employer and now has
opened her own business.
A former employee of Ben Frank
lin, which closed its doors around
mid-November of 1984, Mrs. Clemons
now does her own custom framing.
I enjoy doing needlework framing
the most, she said. However, she can
make your frame to order “just
whatever you need, I can do it.”
A Forsyth County native, Mrs.
Clemons said that she worked with
Ben Franklin “until a couple of days
before they closed. I was with them
on and off for about five years,” she
said. Ben Franklin closed on a Sun
day and Mrs. Clemons opened Cus
tom Comers the following Saturday.
Mrs. Clemons said that business
had been good since her opening and
that “a lot of customers followed me

One of Advertising Alternative’s
recent presentations was held at Can
nongate On Lanier with President
Jack Margeson of Phillips and
Forsyth County Hospital at 887-2355.
“We are looking forward to even
more community participation in this
year’s fair,” said Craig Hethcox,
administrator of Forstyh County Hos
pital.
“The health fair provides county
residents with a chance to learn about
the wide variety of health resources
available right here in the county,
and to have an extensive amount of
free health tests,” he added.
Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m.
until 6 p.m. and on Saturday, from 10
a.m. until 4 p.m.
Brooks Inc., and marketing manager
Louise Moseley, and other corporate
staff from as far as Dallas, Texas,
attending.
A newly formed ad agency, and
possibly (me of the first in Forsyth
County, Ms. Kirkland said that “we
just want to please our client.”
Whether it be corporate advertis
ing, company in-house advertising, or
magazine promotions, Ms. Whitmire
said that “we plan the strategy and
then present it to the customer.”
And with a marketing manager and
a graphics design person in charge,
it’s just up to the client.
