emergency vehicles, but they won’t
be regarded as “county maintained.”
Commissioner Marcus Whitmire
says roads in the subdivision cannot
be regarded as official "county main
tained” roads because they have
never been accepted by the county.
Monday’s meeting marked the
fourth time since October that main
tenance of roads in Shady Shores has
been considered by the commission.
The main issue has been whether or
not the roads are indeed “county”
roads, which determines if they qual
ify for maintenance by the county
road department.
In other business Monday, the com
mission:
• Authorized County Attorney Rob
ert S. Stubbs, II to prepare a business
license ordinance for the county. Not

And for the top answer of the day,
it, too must remain anonymous. “I
remember one of my first kisses,”
this person said, “but all I can re

So be it.
What are kisses all about anyway?

The News welcomes items of com
munity interest for inclusion in the
Community Calendar. If you have an
item for the calendar, call 887-3126 or
county treasury, and law enforce
ment officials will be able to make
requests for use of the money to the
commission. After that, the commis
sion may seek bids on requested
items. The vote followed receipt of a
letter from District Attorney Rafe
Banks, stating that $5,192 had been
forfeited to the county in a case.
County Administrator Lloyd Wagnon
said the money may be used for
certain improvements in local law
enforcement. The commission has
been asked to spend the $5,192 on
courtroom video equipment and up
grading video equipment at the sher
iff’s department.
• Approved the purchase of a Case
580 Super-E backhoe Georgia 9 at Big
Creek. Construction landfills are de
signed only for dumping of construc
tion materials, and not for odor
causing materials found in other
penalty in some cases.
S.R. 83 would allow prosecutors,
the defendant in a murder case, and
the judge to enter into a contract in
which the defendant pleads guilty and
is sentenced to life imprisonment.
Under this type of contract, the
defendant would agree not to seek
parole for 30 years.
The resolution is a constitutional
amendment, and must be approved
by voters in the 1986 General Election
before it becomes law.
Other bills approved last week by
the Senate include:
• S.B. 43 Establishes a new pay
scale for sheriffs based on the popula
tion of the county in which they serve.

• Denied a request by Bruce and
Lois Johnson to rezone Valley Stream
subdivision from A to R-l-R.
• Approved rezonings for Thomas
Martin, R-l to CBD, 4.262 acres on
Georgia 9 south; and William Fred
Jett, A to CBD, two acres on Daves
Creek Road.
• Granted conditional approval to a
rezoning for the Wolfbridge Group,
Ltd., which was seeking a change in
classification from R-l and A to R-3
for 9.98 acres on Georgia 20 east. Two
conditions will be applied to the re
zoning: (1) that there be no more
than eight multi-family structures
and one single-family residence on
the property; and (2) that there be a
25-foot dense vegetative buffer along
the property line next to Freedom
Baptist Church.
SEWER From Page 1A
This proposal, however, has been
rejected by the federal Environmen
tal Protection Agency (EPA) and the
state Environmental Protection Divi
sion (EPD), because the city of Ros
well has a drinking water intake in
Big Creek.
Both agencies feel that dumping
even highly treated sewage into the
creek would have an adverse impact
on that city’s intake.
So; with hopes dampened for a
more permanent solution to local
sewerage needs, Greenway says an
other meeting between city and
county officials is needed to discuss
immediate relief.
Joe Bork, consulting engineer for
the water and sewerage authority,
says local officials might consider
spray irrigation of sewage.
