mum care. The more you pay, the
higher quality and more professional
atmosphere you’ll receive.
“I’d rather know that someone who
works on someone in my family is
qualified and does that work for a
living. It’s good to know I pay my
people enough that they don’t have to
work 14 other jobs to support them
selves. I can’t see paying employees
below minimum wage.”

However, the county had been actu
ally paying $2,600 a month, according
to Belvia Padgett, assistant county
administrator.
Mrs. Padgett said the error was
discovered in August and as of Sept.
20 the county had paid $17,700 to the
center 55,100 over the budgeted
amount.
The commissioners agreed to go
ahead and pay the $1,050 for the
remaining year without a reimburse
ment.
• Doris Holbrook, acting director
and social worker of the center, and
board members asked the county
commissioners to take over the cen
ter, according to Leroy Hubbard,
commissioner. Hubbard said they
could not do this because the center is
a private operation.
• Members of the board have dis
cussed resigning and in fact turned in
their resignations to the commission
ers earlier this month, said Hubbard.
He noted that the resignations didn’t
mean anything to the commissioners
since they did not regulate the center
or the board.

Oglesby said that he paid his em
ployees between $13,000 and $20,000 a
year.
Ken Jarrard, a former employee
for Life Stat said that for working one
shift, he was paid $12,000 a year.
Jarrard said he worked two shifts
with the Life Stat service 96 hours a
week in order to make a living.
Others working there also worked
two jobs, said Jarrard.
The board is composed of six non
elected residents who handle all gov
erning decisions of the center. Mem
bers are: Darrel Wilkins, Mary
Harrison, Dennis Bottoms, Shannon
Mize, Joel Farrer and Terry Smith.
• A new insurance policy has in
creased the center’s premimums by
300 percent. These insurance rate
hikes are being felt by day care
centers all over the country.
The day care center has been in
operation here since 1971 and is lo
cated on Sharon Road in the old
Sharon Elementary School. Cur
rently there are 56 children, ages 6
months to five years, enrolled. Acce
ptance is based upon income and fam
ily size. The cost ranges from $3 to
S4O, depending upon eligibility.
Federal funds are provided based
on the number of children in the
center, says Mrs. Holbrook. It is
funded through a Social Service
Block Grant and regulated by the
state Department of of Human Re
sources.
• Jann L. Hale, A to R-2, 4.11 acres
on Pilgrim Mill Road, just north of
Sawnee Creek. The property is in
tended for construction of four du
plexes.
• Jake Gantt, A to R-2-R, 32.81
acres off Oak Grove Circle, for devel
opment of a subdivision.
• Skip King, A to R-l-R, 102.67 acres
on Kelly Mill Road, Vi mile west of
Ga. 371. “Ryan’s Bluff’” an eques
trian estate community consisting of
22 lots, is planned for the property.
King said lots would range from 4 to 9
acres. Because of a legal question
about whether horses could be al
lowed in property zoned R-l-R, the
102 acres was recommended for ap
proval on a conditional basis.

But the cost of service is just one of
the complaints which has been aired
about the county’s ambulance opera
tion.
An advanced EMT for Gwinnett
County complained about the assis
tance Life Stat provided at a drown
ing a few months ago.
According to the EMT, Gwinnett
EMS personnel asked Oglesby for a
body bag for the victim so that the
family would not have to see the
remains.
According to the EMT, Oglesby
said that he needed his body bags.
Gwinnett EMS, which was without
any body bags, asked Oglesby if they
could just borrow the bag for a few
hours.
Oglesby let Gwinnett EMS have a
body bag, however he got one of his
employees to hand them a bill along
with the bag.
The Gwinnett EMT said that they
brought back the bag unused
and the bill.
After a recent accident whicn
occured on Georgia 9 North, in front
of Sawnee View Gardens, a Forsyth
County Sheriff’s deputy reported his
dissatisfaction in the way the scene
was handled.
According to the deputy’s report
and two others written about the
accident Med-1 received an emer
gency call for a wreck on Georgia 9
North in front of Sawnee View Gar
dens. On the way to the scene, a
driver for Life Stat tried to pass Med
1, but because of 5 p.m. traffic, failed
to do so. .
Once at the scene, the reports state
that a female EMT from the Life Stat
unit ran to the patient put her hands
on his chest and said to Marion Mac-
and A to CBD, .49 acre off Spot Road.
Heard and Tribble were seeking the
rezoning in order to rent a chicken
house on the property and use it for a
cabinet shop.
• Monty Holland and Jack Morse,
VC (Vacation Cottages) to VCR (Va
cation Cottages/Restricted), 2.89
acres on Holland Road off Shady
Grove Road. The property will be
divided into four residential lots.
Only one rezoning request, filed by
Eamestean and Tommy Estes, was
recommended for denial by the plan
ning commission.
The applicants were seeking to
rezone 35.82 acres at the intersection
of Union Hill and James roads from A
to M-l, for construction of ware
houses.

Donald, an advanced EMS for Med-1,
“That’s my patient.”
The report says George Buley, an
EMT for Life Stat, exited his vehicle
saying, “Get the patient. Get the
patient.”
MacDonald replied, “I’m Marion
MacDonald, ALS (advanced life sup
port).”
The girl replied, “So am I.”
MacDonald then said, “If I can help
you, let me know,” according to the
report.
It wasn’t long after this scene,
stated the report, that Oglesby ar
rived in his private vehicle and asked
Angie Hix, an EMT for Med-1 who
was helping with the wounded victim,
“How’d you get the call?”
It was later discovered that the
female EMT from the Life Stat unit
was not trained in advanced life sup
port.
“This isn’t a tug-of-war between
ambulance services,” said Mrs. Mac-
Donald. “This is a fight for human
life. We’re talking about human life
here. And it’s not just the fact that
this female EMT said that she was
advanced and she wasn’t, the prob
lem is that I am advanced and the
patient was not given the maximum
care he could have received.
“The most important thing in this
business is the patient. That man had
the right to the most experienced
technician on the scene. That was his
right... as a human being.”

Block. “However, the extent of these
losses cannot be determined until the
late fall harvests have been com
pleted.
“I have requested the State Emer

Harris said assistance in the form
of disaster program payments for
farmers without crop insurance, im
plementation of the FmHA Emer

agricultural program assistance are
essential.
In addition to Forsyth and Dawson,
counties in north Georgia for which
Harris is seeking aid include: Banks,
Franklin, Habersham, Hall, Henry,

My first belief in Chiropractic core was that they all were nothing but quacks! Little did I know that I would hove my
stubborn mind changed, especially by a Chiropractor himself.
I came to Doctor Gregory's office simply to apply for a job. One of the requirements was that we (applicants) attend
his Wednesday night health talk; after the health talk that night, I had questions in my mind, for he covered some
very sore subjects, such as my shoulder ond neck I
The very next morning, I woke with an excruciating pain in my shoulder & neck. I went into the office with the state
ment that I wonted something done, whether he hired me or not! I wanted the pain to go oway! It was during the next
twelve hours that Dr. Gregory mode a reel believer of me. I could not even raise my right arm above my waist ond
after his exam, x-roys, and adjustments, I wos heoled. The next doy, I dubbed him "Reverend".
Seriously, he is very professional and the pain did in fact go away. Not only did I feel better from his core, but I got
the job. Praise the lord on both counts. Marianna Smith
