Deaths
Mary Barrett
Funeral services were held
Wednesday, Sept. 25,1985, at 2 p.m. at
the Cumming Church of God for Mrs.
Mary Elizabeth Gilstrap Barrett, 79,
of Cumming Route 4.
The Rev. Rodney Allen and the
Rev. Bruce Flowers officiated the
service for Mrs. Barrett who died
Sunday, Sept. 22,1985. Mrs. Barrett is
the widow of the late Enoch A. Bar
rett. Interment was held at Sawnee
View Gardens.
Surviving Mrs. Barrett are her
sons, Marcus and V.Z. Barrett, and
Edward and Amy Barrett, all of
Cumming; the family of the late
Barrett; daughters, Ellie and Cecil
Kendrick of Marietta, Mrs. Evelyn
Barrett, Mrs. Etta Simmons, Bonnie
and George Whelchel and Tommy
and Helen Wilson, all of Cumming; 22
grandchildren; 25 great-grandchil
dren; three grandchildren; a brother,
Claude Gilstrap of Alpharetta, and a
number of other relatives.
Ingram Funeral Home was in
charge of arrangements.

Sunday, Oct. 6, 1985, at 2:30 p.m. at
the chapel of Ingram Funeral Home
for Mrs. Erma Robbs Floyd, 90, of
Decatur, formerly of Cumming route

Mr. and Mrs. Gaston (Eleanor)
Crowe of Decatur; two sons, Mr. and
Mrs. Floyd of Gainesville route 1, and
Mr. and Mrs. James Floyd of Austell;
seven grandchildren; 11 great-grand
children; and a sister, Mrs.. Sallie
Couch of Morrow.

Louise Griffen
Funeral services were held
Wednesday, Oct. 2,1985, at 3 p.m. at
Zion Hill Baptist Church for Mrs.
Mary Louise Neisler Griffin, 59, of
Ballground.
The Rev. J.B. Jordan and the Rev.
Leland Ellis officiated the service for
Mrs. Griffin who died Monday, Sept.
30, 1985. Interment was held in the
church cemetery.
Surviving Mrs. Griffin is her hus
band, William S. Griffin of Bal
lground Route 1; children, Buddy and
Brenda Linder and William F. and
Rebecca Griffin Jr., all of Cumming;
Mike and Marcia Conner of Dawson
ville, Tonya Lynn Griffin and William

Funeral services were held Satur
day, Sept. 28, 1985, at 11 a.m. at the
chapel of Ingram Funeral Home for
Miss Mary Ilean Martin, 77, of At
lanta.
The Rev. L.F. Van Landingham
and the Rev. Larry Rary officiated
the service for Miss Martin who died
Thursday, Sept. 26’ 1985, following an
extended illness. Interment was held
in Alta Vista Cemetery, Gainesville.
Surviving Miss Martin are three
sisters, Mrs. Bonnell Woodruff and
Miss Zona Martin, both of Atlanta,
and Mrs’ Reba Wood of Cumming; a
sister-in-law, Mrs. Flora Martin of
Cumming; several nieces and neph
ews.
James Chastain
Funeral services were held Satur
day, Oct. 5, 1985, at 11 a.m. at the
chapel of Ingram Funeral Home for
James Grady Chastain, 75, of Cum
ming route 6.
The Rev. Howard Spruill and the
Rev. Charles Hardy officiated the
service for Mr. Chastain who died
Thursday, Oct. 3, 1985. Graveside
services were held at 2:30 p.m. Inter
ment was held at Toccoa Baptist
Cemetery in Lakewood near Morgan
ton, Ga.
Mr. Chastain is survived by a wife,
Mrs. Ethel Mae Anderson of Cum
ming; five children, Mr. and Mrs.

Oct. 4, 1985 at 2 p.m. at Brookwood
Baptist Church for Robert “J.W.”
Anderson, 65, of 825 Mathis Airoprt
Road, Suwanee.
The Rev. Randy Rhye and the Rev.
Gerrall Richards officiated the serv
ice for Mr. Anderson who died Tues
day, Oct. 1,1985. Interment was held
in the church cemetery.
Surviving Mr. Anderson is a wife,
Mrs. Lucille Moon Anderson of Suwa
nee; two sons, William Samuel An
derson of Texas and Robert Gene
Anderson of Duluth; three daughters,
Mrs. Don (Joan) Coddington of Con-1
ley, Mrs. Dallas (Jane) Corley of
Duluth, and Mrs. Janet McDowell of
Duluth; eight grandchildren; a'
brother, Holbert Anderson of Cum
ming; two sisters, Mrs. O.J. (Irene)
Westbrooks of Alpharetta, and Mrs.
L.G. (Rudean) Mathis of Suwanee; a
step-daughter, Mrs. Samuel (Lydia)

State ambulance service had im
properly identified herself as an
Advanced Life Support Technician
at the scene of an accident. The
EMT is in fact qualified in Ad
vanced Life Support.

Child care class set
for single parents
“How to Care for a Child” will be
the theme of a course which will be
taught at Pickens Tech beginning
Nov. 4 from 8:30 a.m. to noon each
day, Monday through Friday.
The Child care course will be free to
qualified single parents (single, di
vorced, or legally separated with
minor children) or displaced home
makers (have not worked outside the
home recently). Qualified individuals
must be unemployed and need cur
rent vocational skills to gain employ
ment.
Qualified participants also will re
ceive financial assistance for trans
portation expenses (15 cents per mile,
with a maximum of $5 per day).
Those who qualify for financial assis
tance will be asked enroll in a free
“readiness period” which will begin
Oct. 21. This session will include
study skills, academic remediation,
evaluation, computer literacy, con
sumer education and other training to

the Child Care course and employ
ment.
The Child Care course will cover
basic concepts of normal growth and
development of the child, guidance
and discipline techniques relating to
normal growth patterns, registration
and licensing requirements for keep
ing children in the home or a center.
The instructor will be Mrs. Glenda
Young, consumer education instruc
tor, who has a master’s degree in
Early Childhood Education. She has
many years teaching experience and
also has worked at Head Start and
Family and Children Services.
Those interested in taking the
course should come by or contact the
Pickens Area Vocational-Technical
School in Jasper at 692-3412 and ask
for Mrs. McDaniel or Ms. Brooks.
The course will be open to the general
public as well as the single parent and
displaced homemaker.
