Beginning days of Autumn
bring annual flu season
If you’re sniffling, coughing,
aching and feverish, you may be
one of the first casualties in man’s
annual bout with the “flu bug,”
which is gearing up for its biggest
offensive of the year.
“Flu season” is only weeks
away and persons in high risk
groups should be innoculated be
fore late October.
Persons over 60, along with
those who have heart disease, high
blood pressure, cancer, diabetes
and other chronic illnesses are
considered “high risk,” according
to Earlene Roden, with the For
syth County Health Department.

Because of its ability to mutate
and change, influenza may man
ifest itself in different “types” of
flu.
Therefore, studies of influenza
must be conducted each year to
see how it is changing, so that a
vaccine for the following year may
be developed.
Symptoms of influenza include
fever, chills, headaches, muscle
aches, coughing, sneezing and
feeling run down, Sacks says.
He says most people recover
from influenza in a period of two to
seven days.
