GINGIVECTOMY
Q. What is a gingivectomy?
A. A gingivectomy is o dental pro
cedure that some people need in
order to keep their own teeth. It in
volves the surgical removal of the
tissues around the crown of the
tooth in order to rid them of
peridontal pockets. It is performed
when these pockets cannot be
treated by other methods.
If only a few teeth require this
treatment, it may be completed in
just one sitting. However, if the en
tire mouth is affected, it will usually
take several sittings, one for each
affect section of the mouth. When
gingivectomy is completed, the pa
tient should have no further pro
blems, proficing he or she main
tains good oral hygiene.
