gagement of their daughter, Mary
Charese, to Earl Howard Burton, son
of Mr. and Mrs. Ray J. Burton of
Duluth.
The bride-elect is the grand
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William
Jorden Flanders of Swainsboro and of
Mr. and Mrs. Charles Eugene McGre
gor Jr. of Girard.
She is a graduate of Edmund Burke
Academy and attended Georgia
Southern College and Augusta Col
lege. She is employed by Fulton Fed
eral Bank in Augusta.
The future groom is the grandson of
the late Mr. and Mrs. Jacob R. Bur
rus of Cumming and the late Mr. and
Mrs. Howard Burton of Suwanee.
He is a graduate of Duluth High
School and Georgia Institute of Tech-

Band boosters to meet
The Band Boosters for the Forsyth
County High School “Flash of
Crimson” Band will meet on Monday,
Oct. 14 at 7:30 p.m. in the band room.
GED test scheduled
To obtain a high school equivalency
certificate, one must first
successfully complete the General
Education Development Test. This
test will be offered through the
Pickens Center of the General
Education Development Testing
Service on Saturday, Oct. 19, at 8 a.m.
Due to the fact that additional
forms and information must be
supplied, anyone under the age of 19
must contact the Testing Center prior
to the testing date. Applicants tested
in Georgia Testing Centers must pay
a fee of $2 for the entire test battery at
the time of testing.

day, Dec. 14 at 6 p.m. at the First
United Methodist Church of Waynes
boro.

The Place celebrates
Sunday, Oct. 27, will be an
afternoon of praise and thanksgiving
at The Place in Cumming, to
celebrate a decade of service and
growth there.
The Rural Social Services thrift
shop will be open from 2-5 p.m. on
that Sunday and the public is invited
to drop by.
The Place is located on Pirkle
Ferry Road in Cumming.

Little Theater group
supports drama clubs
Members of the Forsyth County
Little Theater have committed them
selves to the arts in the community
through supporting drama produc
tions in the junior high schools and
future ideas to promote the area’s
talent.
Nora Wilson, board member and
teacher at Otwell Junior High School,
will direct the drama club there in
two productions during the year. The
first will be presented in November.
Dates and information will be avail
able later.
Also, Sandra Kirkland, publicity
chairman and teacher at South For
syth Junior High School, is establish
ing a drama club there. Its first
production, a melodrama, will be
presented in December.

Wilson Clinic officers
The Wilson Clinic held its annual meeting recently and the officers
elected to the board were named. They are: (left to right) Jane
Marshall, secretary; Marcie Kreager, president; Janet Otwell, vice
president; and Jane Joiner, treasurer. The Wilson Clinic is a non
profit corporation providing health care services to all persons
regardless of their ability to pay.

Two other ideas are being looked at
for the future by Little Theater mem
bers.
In the spring a talent show for ages
5 through 18 will be held to showcase
new talent. And in the summer, an
arts festival, coordinated with the
Cumming Chorale, Lanier Civic Bal
let, Sawnee Association of the Arts
and the Community Center Council
will be held on the grounds of the
proposed building site of the commu
nity center.
These plans are tentative and the
Little Theater urges all interested
residents to attend the next meeting
on Thursday, Oct. 24 at 7:30 p.m. at
the Cumming City Hall.
