SWEET WELCOME Every year, right before
school starts, there is a countywide meeting of all
teachers. This year a group of energetic 4-H’ers gathered
at Otwell Junior High to welcome the teachers back to
school and to serve them refreshments at the annual tea
Performing Arts has place in 4-H
By Heather Johnson
Forsyth County 4-H'er
When I tell someone that I am in
4-H and that I play the piano, most do
not associate the two. Four-H is sup
posedly an organization which deals
mainly with rural and agricultural
subjects. What most people do not
know is that Georgia’s most popular
project in 4-H is performing arts
singing, dancing, drama, and instru
mental music.
Because of the enormous popular
ity of this project, several extension
agents in 1981 from around the state
began to develop the idea of a
statewide performing arts group.
They got together with supporting
agents, elected a staff, and so began
Arabian horse finds home through club
By Stacy Samples
Forsyth County 4-H’er
On Oct. 18, 1986, just five days
after my birthday, I received a beau
tiful 2 1 /2 year old Arabian Gelding.
What a “lucky day!” I won this horse
through the 4-H club after a nice man,
(Mr. Graham) donated it to 4-H.
Sometimes nice people donate
horses to the 4-H club so that mem
bers of 4-H can have a chance to win
horses. This is done by writing a

Clovers and Company.
Clovers and Company is a group of
professional teenagers stage
hands, instrumentalists, singers, and
dancers all working together to
produce a polished show. Last year,
the sixth year of Clovers and Com
pany, I was privileged to be chosen as
one of the 26 members out of 120 who
auditioned. The performance sched
ule included shows at Rock Eagle,
Atlanta, Peachtree City, and even in
Lexington, Ky. with the theme “Life
is a Celebration.”
As pianist of this group; I learned
what hard work and discipline were
all about; however, I also learned
about freindship, fellowship, and the
thrill of performing for an audience.
This year is no exception and when I
letter to 4-H telling why you want the
horse, how you will care for it, and
time that will be spent with it.
Two years ago I tried to win a horse
but other 4-H members were lucky. In
the 6th grade I wrote for the Arabian
Gelding. I was lucky and won him.
My horse’s registered name is “Sol
idarity” but I call him by his barn
name, which is “Tim”. Tim is red
dish brown or chestnut. He has a star,
snip, and strip on his face. His two
auditioned again last May for the

Shows.at State 4-H Congress in At
lanta, the Democratic National Con
vention, 4-H Fall Forum, and the
National 4-H Congress in Chicago
have been planned this year. A per
formance at the National 4-H Confer
ence in Washington, D.C. is also on
the horizon.
All in all, six years of the Perform
ing Arts project have.given me in
sight as to my future career. In fact,
4-H has been the major influence on
my choices to continue my music
edudation and my career. 4-H is about
making dreams come true, and I
know that through 4-H, many of mine
have already been fulfilled.
hind legs are partly white (from his
knees down.) I enjoy riding him and
being with him.
In June, 19871 used my horse as a -
H project in the county (CPA) and at
district (DPA). I won first place both
times.
Four-H is a great club. It offers a
lot of opportunities. I’ve learned
many things in 4-H. I plan to keep
studying about animals in my 4-H
project and at my home and later
become a veterinarian.
