Adult hiking
Adult Day Hiking, a monthly event,
will begin Oct. 6 under direction of the
Forsyth County Parks and Recre
ation Department.
The activity will begin with an
Easy to Moderate hike to Raven
Cliffs Falls.
Glenn Simpson, a local hiking en
thusiast, is the trip leader. The group
will meet at 8:15 a.m. at Midway
Park and return by 2:20 p.m. Trans
portation will be furnished. Early
registration is urged since space is
limited. The fee is $5.

Adult running
An adult running program, intro
ducing the basic fundamentals, will
begin Oct. 6 at Forsyth County High
School. Time set for the activity is 6
p.m.
Glenn Simpson will be the instruc
tor for the class, to be held every
Tuesday and Thursday for six weeks.
Cost for the class is $25. For more

Wrestling
There will be a wrestling match
Oct. 5 at the Forsyth County High
School gymnasium. Proceeds of the
event are scheduled to go to the
benefit the FFA and VICA clubs of
Forsyth County High School and Ot
well Junior High.
Wrestlers to be featured are
Tommy Rich, Grizzly Boone, Night
mares I and the Blackwell brothers,
Jerry and Kevin. Tickets can be
purchased by calling John Joyner at

Dogwood run
The Dogwood Run for Diabetes will
be held Oct. 10 at Stone Mountain
Park. The race will be five miles in
length and will run around the base of
the mountain. There will also be a 3K
race and 1-mile fun run.
Individual and team prizes will be
awarded. Each competitor will re
ceive a Dogwood Run T-shirt. Entry
fee is $lO through Oct. 2. Late regis
tration is sls.

Bass clinic
Gainesville Junior College will be
offering a class on Striped Bass fish
ing this fall. The class, to be held

Children’s hiking
Children’s Day Hiking will be held
Oct. 10. The program is part of the
Forsyth County Parks and Recre
ation hiking plan.
This hike will be on the Unicoi Lake
Trail. The trail is 2.2 miles. The group
will meet at 9 a.m. at Midway Park.
Transportation will be furnished. Fee
for the trip is $5.

Fall tennis
Fall tennis will be offered by the
Forsyth County Parks and Recre
ation Department. These classes will
be held at Midway Park tennis
courts.
There will be different classes for
beginning youth, advanced beginning
adult and doubles strategy. Fee for
each class is $25.
These classes will be held Mondays
and Fridays. League play will be
Saturday mornings at 9 a.m. The fee
is $25 plus a $5 league fee. The in
structors will be Bobbie Woodruff and
Nancy Stevens. For more informta

Gymnastics
Gymnastics will be sponsored by
the Forsyth County Parks and Recre
ation Department this fall. All classes
will be held at the Midway Elemen
tary School gymnasium.
The classes, taught by Stephanie
Scoggins, will meet either Monday or
Thursday. The monthly fee is $17.50,
and all classes are offered. Advanced
classes require a skill level test.

City gymnastics
The Cumming City Recreation and
Parks Department is currently offer
ing gymnastics. Stephanie Scoggins
will be the instructor.
There will be classes for Pre-School
ages, as well as beginners and ad
vanced ages. The 30 minute sessions
are 10 per month, with the 1 hour
sessions sls per month.

Hapkido
The Cumming Recreation and
Parks Department will be holding
classes in the Korean martial art of
Hapkido. These classes will be held in

Youth classes will be held from
6:30-7:30 p.m. and will cost $25 for the
8-week session. Adult classes will
meet from 7:30-9 p.m. and will run S3O
per each 8-week session.
These classes will be taught by
Waylon Shadbum, 2nd Degree Black
Belt with the Korean Hapkido Asso
ciation and the Georgia Hapkido As
sociation. Shadburn has been
teaching with the Cumming Recre
ation Department for the past 10
years.

Volleyball
The Forsyth County Parks and
Recreation Department is holding
Men’s Open, Women’s Open and Co
ed Volleyball Leagues this fall.

Aerobics
The Forsyth County Parks and
Recreation Department is holding a
low impact aerobics class. This class,
which began Sept. 4 at the Midway
Community Center, is still open.

Nature hikes
The Gwinnett County Parks and
Recreation Department will be spon
soring nature hikes Oct. 10, Nov. 14
and Dec. 12.
Each hike will begin a 8 a.m. and
end with breakfast at 10 a.m. Partici
pants should bring their own break
fast. The hikes will be held at George
Pierce Park on Buford Highway in
Suwanee.
There is a $1 fee per adult and $.50
for children. Pre-registration is re

Hunter safety
A six hour hunter certification pro
gram will be offered Oct. 10 at North
Gwinnett High School. The course is
set to begin at 10 a.m.
This will be a free course taught by
the staff from The Georgia Depart
ment of Natural Resources. All hunt
ers born after Jan. 1, 1961 are
required by the state to take the
certification course before obtaining
a license.
