Members of the Georgia Chapter,
Safari Club International helped kick
off fund-raising efforts for Georgia's
Nongame Wildlife Fund with a $5,000
check presented to chairman Cason

Cumming events
Improve handwriting with calligraphy course
Learn the ancient art of beautiful handwriting at
Gainesville College’s course in Calligraphy.
Taught by graphic artist, Bonnie Martin, Calli
graphy meets on Thursdays, Oct. 8-29 from 7-9
p.m. The class will cover the basic strokes of the
Italic hand with in-class practice and demonstra
tion. Supply list will be provided upon registration
of the S3O fee. Class is limited to 20 participants.

Cattlemen plan field day
The North Georgia Cattlemen Association in
Cumming is sponsoring a field day for its mem
bers and their families on Oct. 10 at the farm of
Silvy and Donna Kirby.
Festivities begin at 1 p.m. with a meeting to be
from 1:15-1:30 p.m. For reservations call the
Kirby’s at 887-3105.
Yard sale is Oct. 10
The Ladies Fellowship at Zion Hill Baptist
Church will have a yard sale, Oct. 10 from 8 a.m.-4
p.m. at the church.
Baked goods, crafts and miscellaneous items
will be sold. The church is off Ga. 369 in the Matt
community.
Club to hear of child abuse
Mike Steele of the Georgia Council of Child
Abuse will speak to the Sawnee Junior Woman’s
Club, Oct. 14 at 9:30 a.m. in the community room
of Bank South.

Gospel singing at Free Home
The Liberty Quartet and The Light House Quar
tet will perform at a gospel singing at the Free
Home Elementary School gym, Thursday, Oct. 8
beginning at 7:30 p.m.
No admission charge, but an offering will be
taken. All donations will go toward financing New
Harmony Baptist Church Christmas plan, “From
Christ Child to Judgment.”
Halloween carnival set
The Alpharetta Recreation Department is spon
soring an old fashioned Halloween Carnival and
craft show for Saturday, Oct. 31, at Wills Park.
All recreation proceeds will be donated to the
Young Athlete Scholarship fund and all partici
pants in the craft show are asked to donate at least
50 percent of their profits to a children’s charity of
their choice.
Those interested in participating by sponsoring
a booth should call the recreation department at
442-0105.
Art classes offered to kids
The Cumming City Park is offering two art
classes for children this fall.
Acrylic Painting Trick-or-Treat baskets will
be taught by Rose Hulsey, Oct. 10 from 1-3 p.m.
Ages 7 and up are included. The cost is sls which
includes supplies.

PTA sets turkey shoot
A turkey and ham shoot, sponsored by the PTA
of Northwestern Elementary School, will be held
Oct. 17 at the school grounds, 12760 Birmingham
Hwy. (Hwy 372), in Crabapple.
A concession stand will be open. All proceeds
from the shoot go to PTA projects which benefit
Northwestern students.
Better Breathers to meet
The American Lung Association of Georgia and
Gwinnett Medical Center will sponsor a Better
Breathers classes for those with asthma, emphy
sema, bronchitis and other adult lung disease,
beginning Oct. 12 at 7 p.m. at the Gwinnett
Medical Center in Lawrenceville.

Marriage seminar Oct. 8-10
There will be a marriage seminar at the Sawnee
Mountain Church of God, Oct. 8-10, from 7:30-9
