Tennis workshop
For all club tennis professionals
and treacher, the United States Ten
nis Association will be holding a Ten
nis Workshop, Feb. 18-19, at the Geor
gia World Congress Center in Atlanta.
A group of professionals, including
Jack Groppel and Jim Loehr, will dis
cuss the latest developments on topics
ranging from on-court drills and busi
ness skills to training parents for com
petition and personal computer
usage.

Bass fishing
A course on fishing for Striped Bass,
will be offered Jan. 5-26, at Gaines
ville Junior College. The class will be
held Tuesdays, from 7-9 p.m, will be
taught by Harold Nash. The fee is $25,
and early registration is urged.

Fly fishing
The Gainesville Junior College of
Continuing Education, is offering a
class on Beginning Fly Fishing. The
class will be taught on Tuesdays,
March 1-22, from 7-9 p.m.
Jerry Davis will teach how to fly
fish for trout, bass and bream. The fee
is $35. Maximum enrollment is 25 par

Children’s hike
A Children’s Day Hike to Raven
Cliffs, sponsored by the Forsyth Coun
ty Parks and Recreation Department,
is planned for Dec. 12. Hikers will
leave Midway Park at 9 a.m., and will
return, 4 p.m.
Space is linmited, so early registra
tion is urged. Fee for the trip is $5. For

Hunting safety
The Georgia State Game and Fish
Commission will instruct safe

The Cumming City Park Recrea
tion Department will be holding gym
nastics registration the first Friday of
each month. These classes are de
signed to run every Friday afteroon.
All 30 minute sessions cost $lO per
month with hourly lessons costing sls.
There will be groups for pre-school
ages (3-5), beginners (6-up) and an
other class for advanced ages (6-up).
All classes will be taught by Stephanie
Scoggins.

Lanier/400
Bulldog Club
The friends and supporters of the
University of Georgia are forming a
Lanier/ 400 Bulldog Club. This new
club will be for individuals residing in
Forsyth, Dawson, Cherokee, Gwin
nett and North Fulton counties not in a
club.

Tennis
The Cumming Recreation and
Parks Department will hold a fall ten
nis youth league. Pat Pitts will place
individuals on teams according to
their ability level.
Doubles competition for youth, ages
8-17, will be offered. All matches will
be played at either Cumming City
Park or Forsyth County High School.
A trophy will ber presented to the
high point player at the end of the six
week playing period. The cost is S2O
for regular players and $3 for
substitutes.

DRIVE-THRU
City gymnastics
Cumming City Park is currently of
fering registration for gymnastics.
Gymnastics will be held at the Cum
ming Elementary gym each Friday
during November.
These gymnastics classes will be
taught by Stephanie Scoggins. Class
es for beginners and advanced begin
ners will be offered.
Cost for a month of 30 minute ses
sions is $lO a week. For 1 hour each
week, the cost will be sls.

Hapkido
The Cumming Recreation and
Parks Department is holding classes
in Hapkido and the Korean Martial
Arts of Self Defense. These classes
are held Tuesdays in the Old Cum
ming Gym.
Youth classes will be held from
6:30-7:30 p.m., and will cost $25 for an
8-week session. The adult class will
meet from 7: 30-9: 00 p.m. and will cost
S3O.

tor for the last 10 years with the Cum
ming City Park Recreation Depart
ment, will once again be the teacher.
Shadburn is a 2nd Degree Black Belt
with the Korean Hapkiodo Associa
tion and the Georgia Hapkido
Association.

Nature hiking
The Gwinnett County Parks and Re
creation Department will be sponsor
ing nature hike Dec. 12.
The hike will begin at 8 a.m. and end
with breakfast at 10 a.m. Participants
should bring their own breakfast. The
hike will be held at George Pierce
park on Buford Highway in Suwanee.
There is a $1 fee for each adult and a
$.50 charge for children. Pre-registra
tion is reguired. For more informa

Fall gymnastics
The Forsyth County Parks and Re
creation Department is currently
holding gymnastics classes. All class
es will be held at the Midway Elemen
tary School gym.
The monthly fee is $17.50 and all
classes are offered. Advanced classes
require a skill level test.
