’Tis the season
Parade of performers marks Brenau’s Dec. 8 ‘Christmas Collage’
The Forsyth County community is
invited to experience “Christmas at
Brenau” Dec. 8, with the faculty, stu
dents, alumnae and guests.
The celebration begins at 8 p.m. in
Pearce Auditorium with the second
annual “A Christmas Collage,” a pot
pourri of dance, drama and music fea
turing over 100 performers.
Immediately following, wassail and
Christmas cookies will be served in
the Alumnae House, sponsored by the
Gainesville-Hall County Chapter of
the Brenau Alumnae Association.
Admission is $4 for adults and free
to children under 12. The reception is

Gallery planning
2 open houses
The Gallery will have a Christmas
Open House Dec. 11 and 12 from 10
a.m.-5 p.m.
The Gallery is a membership orga
nization of artists and craftsmen who
display their work at the building on
233 Atlanta Road. Refreshments will
be served and a $25 gift certificate will
be given Dec. 12 and 19.
New Harmony Baptist
having presentation
New Harmony Baptist Church will
present “From Christ Child to the
Judgment” Friday and Saturday be
ginning at 7 p.m. The church is on Ga.
20 west of Cumming.
Christmas cantata
at Pleasant Grove
Pleasant Grove United Methodist
Church Adult Choir will present a
Christm? cantata, “Call Him Je
sus,” arranged by Joseph Linn, Dec.
13 beginning at 7:30 p.m.
The youth choir will present a
Christmas musical, “Christmas Clas
sic,” Dec. 20 beginning at 7 p.m. at the
church located on Pleasant Grove
Road, between Dr. Bramblett Road
and Hurt Bridge Road.
Sonrise to present
Christmas program
Sonrise, a junior-senior high choir
at Covenant Presbyterian Church,
will present a Christmas music pro
gram in Free Home on Dec. 13.
The performance will be at Trinity
Presbyterian Church, beginning at
7:30 p.m. The choral group will sing a
selection of traditional and contempo
rary Christmas music, directed by
Tom Evans. Refreshments will be
served following the program.
Trinity is off Ga. 372 and Arbor Hill
Road in the Free Home Community.
First Baptist posts
list of special days
Cumming First Baptist Church will
celebrate the birth of Christ with spe
cial services throughout December.
This Sunday at 7 p.m. will be the
“Hanging of the Green” service. On
Dec. 13 the Senior Adult Choir will
sing several Christmas anthems at
the 11 a.m. worship service. At 7 p.m.
that day the adult choir and childrens
choirs will present, “The Glory of the
Lord,” a choral celebration and dra
ma by Tom Fettke, adapted by Ken
neth Hill, minister of music.
Dec. 20 members of the college and
career choir will give their testimo
nies and sing several Christmas an
thems at the 11 a.m. service. At 7 p.m.
the youth choir will present, “Rejoice
in Jesus,” a Christmas cantata by
Steve Pot, adapted by Hill.
A Christmas Eve service will be
Dec. 24 at 7 p.m.

The Cumming Recreation Depart
ment has plans for Santa Claus to tele
phone children ages 8 and under from
Santa’s workshop, Dec. 16 from 5:30-9
p.m. If you would like Santa to tele
phone your child, please come by the
Cumming City Park and fill out a reg
istration form.
Registration deadline is Dec. 14.
Make decoration
for holidays
The Cumming Recreation Depart
ment in conjunction with the Old
Homestead is offering an acrylic
painting class for children during
December.
On Dec. 12 from 1-3 p.m. children
will paint a Ho-Ho-Ho sign for the holi
days. The cost is $lO including all
supplies.

Presentation tells
of Christmases
You can get taste of Christmas Now
and Then at the Lanier Museum of
Natural History in Buford Saturday.
Christmas Now and Then is a pre
sentation of the Gwinnett County
Parks and Recreation Department
and will feature old-time decorations
and, keeping things current, Santa’s
Workshop and Santa himself.
The workshop will be located in the
auditorium near the museum in the
Tinier Water Park and will be open
from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Dec. 12. San
ta, Mrs. Claus and the elves arrive at
5:30 p.m. at the museum and will visit
with youngsters in the workshop. Af
ter Santa’s arrival, the tower in the
park and an outdoor Christmas tree
will be lighted at 6 p.m.
In addition, the historic 1818 Bow
man-Pirkle house near the museum
will be decorated as it would have
been in the 1800 s. The house will be
open from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Dec. 12.
Local groups will be involved as
part of the entertainment and
decorating.

Cumming Chorale
singing Dec. 10
The Cumming Chorale will hold its
annual Christmas performance Dec.
10 at 8 p.m. at the First United Meth
odist Church on Pilgrim Mill Road.
The program is free.
The theme of the performance is the
Five Moods of the Season, including a
variety of music to appeal to all ages.
A special guest appearance will be
made by one of Santa’s lesser known
reindeer, Pablo.
Also, Professor Peter Scheckley
will introduce a number by the little
known son of J.S. Bach, P.D.Q. Bach,
the 32nd of J.S. Bach’s 27 children.
The chorale has tripled in size this
year and will be open for new mem
bers starting in January for the spring
concert. The chorale is directed by
Martha Osborne, who has 17 years’
experience directing school musical
groups.
2 Forsyth dancers
in ‘Nutcracker’
Two Forsyth County ballet dancers
will perform in “The Nutcracker”

This is the 10th year the familiar
dance has been performed by the
Gainesville Ballet. Performances will
be Dec. 3-5 at 8 p.m. and Dec. 6 at 2
p.m., all in Pearce Auditorium on the
Brenau College campus.
Susan Thomas of Cumming will be
the Snow Queen. Lesa Martin of Cum
ming will also dance.
In honor of the 10th presentation of
the holiday favorite, guest dancers
Kathryn Mcßeth and Ron Jones will
appear in the ballet. Mcßeth has over
15 years experience with the Atlanta
Ballet. Jones is founder and owner of
Ron Jones School of Ballet in Augusta
and is dancer in residence with the
Gainesville Ballet.

NGC Singers set
carol concert
The North Georgia College Singers
will give a community concert of
Christmas carols and songs, to be pre
sented at the Dahlonega college Dec.
4. The free concert begins at 8 p.m. in
Young Hall auditorium.
The NGC Singers, under the direc
tion of Dr. David Barnett, tour the
Southeastern United States every
year. The group is composed of select
singers and musicians attending
North Georgia College.
The Christmas concert program
will include “Deck the Halls,” “Silent
Night,” “Away in the Manger,” “Car
ol of the Bells,” and “I Wonder as I
Wander.” There will be selections

to have party
The senior citizens in Forsyth Coun
ty will have a Christmas Party, Dec. 8
at 10:30 a.m. at the Cumming United
Methodist Church on Pilgrim Mill
Road.
Refreshments will be provided. The
Cumming Kiwanis Club will provide
stockings for all participants. Enter
tainment will be provided.
Tour holiday homes
in Cherokee
The Christmas Tour of Homes and
Crafts Show in Cherokee County is
Saturday from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. and Sun
day from 2-5 p.m., to benefit the R.T.
Jones Memorial Hospital.
