The North Georgia area is rich in
natural beauty and tourist attractions
which draw millions of visitors each
year. Forsyth Countians are all famil
iar with the lure of Lake Lanier, but
newcomers to the area may not be
aware of these mountain favorites, all
within easy driving distance:
• Lake Lanier Islands Located
across the dam near Buford, the Is
lands are a favorite for those who en
joy visiting the lake. A white sand
beach, water slides, horse trails, golf,
boating, cabins, a hotel and much
more are a part of the Island adven
ture. Approximate driving time from
Cumming: 25 minutes.
• Amicalola Falls State Park
located in Dawson County, Amicalola
is the highest waterfall in Georgia.
The park has cottages for rental and
campsites, as well as picnic facilities
for individual families and groups.
The Appalachian Trail begins near
Amicalola. Approximate driving time
from Cumming: 40 minutes.
• Babyland General Hospital
located in Cleveland, Babyland Gen
eral is the birthplace for the Cabbage
Patch kids, the popular creation of
Xavier Roberts. Visitors to the hospi
tal can watch their Cabbage Patch ba
bies being “delivered” from the Cab
bage Patch. Approximate driving
time from Cumming: 50 minutes.
• Unicoi State Park A beautiful
mountain park located near the Al
pine village of Helen, a favorite of
North Georgia tourists. Unicoi fea
tures a lodge, cabins, Anna Ruby
falls, and the splendor of North Geor
gia. Approximate driving time from
Cumming: 70 minutes.
• Vogel State Park Acclaimed
as one of Georgia’s most scenic areas,
Vogel is known for its sparkling, cold
mountain lake and the lushness of its
surroundings. Nearby are the Blood
Mountain Archaelogical area and the
Appalachian Trail. Approximate
driving time from Cumming: 60
minutes.
• Kennesaw Battlefield in Mari
etta The site of one of the most deci
sive battles in the Civil War, Kenne
saw features a museum, slide
presentation, hiking trail and an ex
hibit of antique weapons. Approxi
mate driving time from Cumming: 45
mintues.
• Georgia Mountain Fair Held
during August every year, the fair
near Hiawasee draws crowds from
across the south for displays of moun
tain-style living from years past, arts,
crafts and bluegrass music. Approxi
mate driving time from Cumming:
120 minutes.
• Chattahocchee National F orest

Afternoon adventure Six Flags, an amusement park for the entire
family, is filled with rides, activities and adventures. Getting there from
Forsyth County is easy simply take Ga. 400 south to 1-285. From 285
ride approximately 1 7 miles west to the I-20 interchange and go west on I
-20 also. Three exits up on the right is the Six Flags exit, but the observant
person can locate The Mindbender, a rollercoaster with three loops, loom
ing on the left. Turn left coming off the exit and you can’t miss it. Have fun.

gia. A long, rambling wall of boulders
and stones rings a portion of the
mountain side, and historians aren’t
sure how it got there nor of its pur
pose. Mystery aside, the park has a
sparkling lake and beach, rental cab
ins, a large camping area, and in the
summer offers nature exhibits and
demonstrations by park rangers. Ap
