Rogers clarifies article’s comments on tax situation
EDITOR:
Your article regarding the tax situ
ation in the Dec. 11 issue of the paper
was timely and informative.
Close scrutiny did reveal two princi
pal ideas that were dropped in the
article.
The short paragraph about specula
tors should have read, “Speculators
will holler most since they will be the
hardest hit. The same goes for
farmers.”
Since the article appeared people

Thanking the citizens of Forsyth County
By Loy Day
On Dec. 31,19881 will complete 12 years of service to
the Forsyth County Board of Education.
I will forever be grateful to the citizens of Forsyth
County for placing this trust in me. I appreciate the
opportunity to have known and worked with the people
associated with the school system.
Several events have taken place during my terms in
office.
In my first term, 1969-1972, consolidation of Duck
town, Friendship and Matt in Sawnee Elementary took
place. Also, the high school vocational classes began
and Otwell Middle school was under construction.
My second term, 1981-1988, Forsyth County has expe
rienced rapid growth and expansion in our school
system.

Mountain Elementary School, additions to Sawnee and
Midway Elementary Schools and recently the additions
of Big Creek and Chestatee plus the conversion of South
Forsyth to a high school have highlighted this period.
I feel that the future of the Forsyth County School
System is in capable hands. The addition of Ms. Cathy
Amos and Mr. Rick Case to new leadership roles will
enhance the the educational process.
The challenges of the future are many.
Growth and funding of the growth is paramount, QBE
and its implementation is imperative and teacher pay
and and student scores must increase.
My advice on these challenges is to be honest, fair and
open with the taxpayers, teachers and students and al
ways keep in mind that the educational process is for
our children of today and tomorrow.
Again I thank and salute the Citizens of Forsyth
County.
