WRESTLE From page IB
The match finished with Platt on
top, desperately trying for a pin.
“That was a real close match,” said
Dameron. “I was real proud of the
way Steven came back. He refused to
quit against a quality wrestler.”
Garmon brought his team to within
29-23 with a pin in the 152-pound divi
sion. After a loss at 160 South’s Troy
Brumbelow pinned Tony Medlin at
1:27 of the first period. That South
Forsyth win brought the War Eagles
to within 35-29
At that point there were two match
es left. A pair of wins would have giv
en the War Eagles a victory in the
opening match of the season.
Chris Woodall nearly gave his tpam
a win at 189 against Tony Byers. Woo
dall, leading 11-3 after two periods, al
lowed Byers to escape with a victory
as the Dragon wrestler pinned his op
ponent in the third.
Aycock, wrestling in the heavy
weight division, pinned Alan Wigging
ton at the 1:48 mark of the opening
period.
“We came close, real close, said
Dameron. “It was a match which
came down to the last two events. We
weren’t able to pull it (victory) off but
considering this was our first match I
felt we had a real strong showing.”
The South Forsyth Junior Varsity
earned six pins in their victory over
Pickens County. Shannon Stancil
(103), Jeff Reed (212), Chris Cross
