The United Methodist Women of the
Gumming United Methodist Church
will sponsor a Christmas cookie and
handmade craft sale.
It will be held Saturday. Dec. 9 from
10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 410 Pilgrim Mill
Road. A variety of homemade deco
rated Christmas cookies will be avail

plans Christmas play

The annual Christmas luncheon of
the United Methodist Women (Circle

New choir planning
for debut on Dec. 3
Parish members of the Church of
the Good Shepherd have organized a
choir and are presently rehearsing for
their debut on Dec. 3 the first Sunday
of the Advent Season.
A special program is also planned
for Christmas Eve at the Midnight
Mass.
Directing the choir is Bill Prescott
who has an extensive professional
musical background. The president of
the choir group is Debbie Sulenski.
Emil Knab is the organist.
John’s Creek Baptist
sets special service
The next special service by John’s
Creek Baptist Church is Dec. 3 and
will be a Dedication Recital at 3:30
p.m. featuring Dr. Ronald E. Boud.
Boud is a professor of church music
for Southern Baptist Theological
Seminary in Louisville, Ky. A recep
tion will follow.

Mr. James H. Kirby, age 46 of Route
3 in Cumming died Monday evening.
Survivors include his wife; Mrs.
Ella Mae Keys Kirby of Cumming,
children; Mrs. Gladys James of
Gainesville, ,Mr. and Mrs. Danny Kir
by and Mrs. Denise Holtzclaw all of
Cumming, Mrs. Kathy Brown of Daw
sonville, sisters; Mrs. Rose Mary
Kennedy of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. and
Mrs. Lisa Ann Johnston of Bowling
Green, Ohio, 10 grandchildren and a
number of nieces and nephews.

Happy time
Mr. and Mrs. Roy Bales recently cele
brated their 50th wedding anniversay
with a reception at Pleasant View Bap
tist Church. The reception was given
by their children and a large number of
friends and relatives joined in the fun.
Interment was in the Timber Ridge
Baptist Cemetery.
Survivors include children; Mr.
Danny Latty, Mr. Stanley Latty and
Mrs. Phyllis Acker all of Gainesville
and Bobbie Jean Patrick of South Car
olina, Ten grandchildren, daughter
in-law; Mrs. Ollie Riddle, brothers;
Mr. J.C. Smith of Lula, Mr. Barnell
Smith and Mr. John T. Smith both of
Gainesville, sisters; Mrs. Cleo Black
of Clermont, Mrs. Glagys Patterson
and Mrs. Estelle Armour both of
Gainesville and a number of other
relatives.
