Striped bass now ready
to catch at Lake Hartwell
Lang before other predator fish be
gin showing signs of recuperating
from the hot summer, Hartwell’s hy
brid and striped bass are already
gorging themselves on the plentiful
schools of blueback herring. 56,650
acre Lake Hartwell, located less than
10 miles northeast of Lavonia, Geor
gia on 1-65, is the #1 early Fall fishing
spot in the Peach State.
To be successful, graph the flats
near the main river channels at 35 to
45 feet deep until fish are spotted on

tennis lessons

and fish a live blueback herring ap
proximately 5 feet above the bottom.
Larger schools of hybrids and strip
ers are often found on flats where both
the Tugaloo and Seneca Rivers open
up into the main lake or dam area. As
additional keys, look for gulls diving
into the water or congregations of
boats in a small area. These are usu
ally indicators that something is feed
ing on the bait fish.

Leagues now forming
for adult basketball
Forsyth County Parks and Recrea
tion Department will conduct adult
basketball leagues this winter.
Leagues will be formed include
men’s open, men’s church, and three
divisions A, B and 30 and over. There
will also be combination women’s
open and women’s church. Leagues
will begin Dec. 4 and conclude March
1.
Games will be played at North For
syth Middle School and the old gym on
Monday, Wednesday and Thursday
night.

Hapkido offered
at Cumming gym
The Cumming Parks and Recrea
tion Department will be offering a
new session of Hapkido. These classes
are offered year round, with each ses
sion lasting eight weeks.
The next session will run through
Jan. 16. Other sessions are scheduled
for the following dates: Jan. 23-March
13,1990 and March 20-May 8, 1990.
These classes will be held in the Old
Cumming Gym on Tuesday evenings.
Hapkido is Korean form of martial
arts and self defense. Youth classes,
age 8-12, be held on Tuesday nights
from 6:30-7:30 p.m., and will cost $25.
The adult classes will meet Tues
days from 7:30-9 p.m. The cost will be
S3O per session.
The adult teacher will be Waylon
Shadbum, a 2nd Degree Black Belt
with the Korean Hapkido Association
and the Georgia Hapkido Association.
Shadbum has been instructing Hap
kido for 10 years with the Cumming

Gymnastics set
for Mom & Tots
Registration for Mom & Tot Gym
nastics classes, a program for chil
dren 18 months to four years, is being
conducted. Classes will be held on
Wednesday’s (5:30-6 p.m.) and Thurs
day’s (2:45-3:15 p.m.) at the Midway
Elementary School gymnasium.
Classes will be conducted under the
direction of Stephanie Scoggins. The
exercises are designed to help the
youngsters develop a basis for physi
cal and social growth.
Pre-registration is required as the
classes are limited. To register call

Intramural sports
begins at Otwell
Otwell Middle School is offering an
intramural sports program. This pro
gram is designed to provide each stu
dent with an opportunity to partici
pate in competitive sports and
recreational activities with his or her
peers.
Intramurals will meet each Tues
day for 6th grade students and on
Thursday’s for 7th-Bth grade stu
dents. All activities will begin at 3:15
p.m. and promptly at 5 p.m.
In order to participate all students
must have a signed permission slip
from his/her parent or guardian.

City Park holds
hunter safety
The State Game and Fish will in
struct Hunter Safety courses on Dec.
12 and 13 at the Forsyth County Court
house in the community room.
Person’s bom on or after Jan. 1,
1961, must successfully complete a
hunter safety course prior to purchas
ing a hunting license.
The Dec. 12 class will be held from
5:30-9 p.m. and the Dec. 13 class is set
for 6-9 p.m. Each participant must at
tend both nights, plus take the Hunter
Safety Exam on the last night. There
is no fee for the course but you must
register.
Aerobics at
Midway, Chestatee
A Low Impact Aerobics class will
meet on Monday and Thursday, at the
Chestatee Elementary School gym
and Midway Elementary Gym.
At Midway the class will be from
6:15 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. while at Chesta
tee it will be from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m.
The fee for the class, sponsored by
the Forsyth County Parks and Re
creation Department, is S2O per
month.

ment maintains two lighted tennis
courts for public use. The courts are
open Monday-Saturday, 8 a.m.-ll
