Additionally, no sign may be placed within 200 feet of agricultural or resi dential property projected as such by the Forsyth County Land Use Plan. An amendment allowing the plan ning department to demand bill boards be maintained was added by Commissioner James Harrington. While not completely agreeing with added restrictions both Harrington and Charles Welch, who had held out staunchly against earlier changes, said the new billboard ordinance is a "good compromise.” “We spent enough time on that,” said Harrington. The sundown clause included in earlier drafts, requiring nonconform ing signs to be taken down within a certain period of time, was Welch’s biggest concern. It was also the peg by which the courts overturned Fulton County's recent ordinance banning billboards. Commissioner Michael McGaughey introduced a new twist to billboard restrictions, asking that the board consider banning billboard advertise ment of alcohol and tobacco products. The suggestion was well received by the other board members who voted to have council look into the issue’s legality. Sadly, one of the three falcons re leased a year ago was killed in Atlan ta traffic. Peregrines are native to Georgia, but hadn't been spotted in our state in more than 40 years ... Such a sighting of a peregrine falcon at the stadium caught Pete the Northside barkeep’s attention. “Probably the most ferocious falcon that’s ever hung out there," grunted Pete, with tongue ever so slightly in cheek... News of a real live falcon at the stadium also brought back memo ries ofthe amusing pre-game scene in the early days of the Falcons. A real live Falcon mascot was released to fly around the stadium and then return to his perch and handler. The Falcon sped around the stadium all right, but not back to his master. He zoomed away, never to be seen again. Obvi- At the school board meeting Tues day members and staff also wrestled with using $60,000 worth of federal grant money before a deadline of June 28.
