Atlantans get a surprised guest for dinner
at Atlanta’s Buckboard on Cobb Parkway
Atlanta businessman Eddie Lee,
Omni security chief Rachel Styles and
Lanierland Music Park owner Tommy
Bagwell were at the Buckboard on
Cobb Parkway about to catch Michael

“Would you mind if Lee Greenwood

Sure enough, singer Lee Greenwood
plopped down at their table with what
Lee described “as a beautiful lady
from Atlanta he’s dating.” Murphey
played to a packed house and got an
ovation from Greenwood and the

SIMPSON
Continued from page 1
A couple of principals confessed to
not knowing who Bart Simpson was.
But they were less than enthused
when they were told of the character’s
pride in his underachievement
After yet another school system
banned the Bart Simpson T-shirts last
week, the Fox Broadcasting Network
released a statement credited to Bart
Simpson, needling the schools for
having “nothing better to do” than
worry about the shirts.
"The Simpsons” is carried on Atlan
ta’s Channel 36 Sunday evenings.

Forsyth County sails through
its 1989 audit, best in 17 years
By Kristin Jeffries
Staff Writer
Forsyth County has passed its audit
of 1989 figures with a nearly perfect
score.
With a budget of $10,837,246, the
county’s expenditures were
$10,861,506 in 1989. a difference of
$24,260.
“The county’s in real good shape.
The best it’s ever been in my 17-year
tenure here,” said accountant and
auditor Wayne I. Bowen of Wayne I.
Bowen & Assoc, of Gainesville.
A few departments were over bud
get, but many came in under and that
balanced it out, said County Adminis
trator Donald Major.
“It’s a cooperative effort One per
son can’t get all the glory for it. All the
department heads were extremely
cooperative and the board of com
missioners themselves watched over
it very carefully,” said Major.
The county brought in $6,802,021 in
property taxes while its was budget
ed for $4,080,576. Taxes from both
1988 and 1987 were received.
The county also received
$1,034,454 in grants and reimburse

has folded As I reported earlier, T-
Bird's will go into the defunct Bour
bon Street Beat space in Kenney’s Al
ley - with a midsummer opening
planned - but the sad footnote is that
T-Bird's will close its Roswell Road
location. Open only a few months, the
Roswell Road T-Bird’s - occupying a
space where Theo's, Chi Chi’s and
other restaurant concepts had failed
drew good crowds for promotions,
but sparse gatherings the rest of the
week ... Ironically, as the Roswell
Road T-Bird’s folds, a mile or so south
on Roswell Road, The Big Kahuna
opens tonight where Confetti used to
be. The Big Kahuna, designed jn a
casual beach club atmosphere, would
surely have competed with T-Bird's
for Roswell Road customers.
The Water and Sewer Department,
on the other hand, had a total reve
nue of $704,000 while the commis
sioners had expected to bring in
$984,000.
In this relatively new endeavor the
county took a $63,000 "book” loss
which includes depreciation of fixed
assets.
In the account set aside for 1 per
cent water lines the county paid
$1,423,000 to Cumming for water and
spent 1,828,000 on new water lines.
This account was si ightly over budget
$835,000, but had $1,037,000 left in its
account at the end of the year.
As a result of this year’s audit Bow
en suggested the Tax Commissioner's
Office accounting system be re
vamped to include daily cash inter
nal control and a monthly record of
cash on hand and cash owed.
“The tax office handled in excess of
s2l million in 1989,” Bowen said.
The first quarter of this year prom
ises more of the same fiscal
management.
The county government is budget
ed to spend $1,027,067 per month in
1990 and has averaged expenditures
of $902,816 per month through April.
