Optimist Club names its Youth of the Month The Forsyth-Cumming Optimist Club named Jennifer Davies and Ja son Summerour as Youths of the Month, at its awards breakfast last Thursday. Mrs. Gloria Poss, faculty member at Forsyth Central High School, nomi nated Jennifer for her outstanding and proven leadership and all around academic and activities leadership. Jennifer Davies carries a 3.41 grade point average in a collage pre paratory program. She graduated with the class of 1990 and plans to attend North Georgia College, major ing in education. Jennifer was the coordinator for Civic Youth Day, in Forsyth County. This involved contacting each adult office holder, arranging the election of student office holders by working with Voter Registrar Melvin Stancil to produce ballots and handle the use of county voting machines, as well as di viding the offices among the four par ticipating schools. She was also re sponsible fordividingtheofficers into grade levels. In addition to those re sponsibilities, she also arranged for the Optimist Club to sponsor the lun cheon, which was held in the Floyd Office building at the State Capitol. First National Bancorp of Gainesville earnings increase The First National Bancorp of Gainesville is reporting record first quarter 1990 earnings of $5,744,000 for the quarter ending March 31,1990 an i ncrease of 9.95 percent over the quar ter ending March 31,1989 First Quarter earnings per share of 64-cents represent a 10.34 percent in crease over the 58-cents earned in the first quarter. 1989 First National Bancorp’s total assets exceeded $1.5 billion for the first time in the compa ny’s history. Jason Summerour was selected by his teacher, A 1 Money, because of his high academic achievement and high achievements and awards in a specif ic field of activity. Jason graduated with honors. He was selected as the Outstanding Ju nior at Forsyth Central High and as a senior was named to “Who’s Who Among American High School Stu dents. He maintained a grade point average of 3.84. His invention the “Hubless Tur bine, earned him a first place in Geor gia, Invent America contest and of which he was awarded a SSOO scholarship. He also placed second in the Sci ence Engineering fair at the Universi ty of Georgia, a statewide contest, which also earned him awards from the Marines and the Air Force. Jason place second in the State of Georgia drafting contest and will go to Texas on June 24 for the national competition. the upper tier of its banking group.
