Cumming Events Head Start to take applications for year The Dawson/Forsyth Head Start Program is taking applications for the 1990-91 program year. Children age 4 by Sept 1,1990 are eligible. Call 265-2980 or 889-0656 for more information. Head Start is a program for pre school children and their families. The program provides education, health, parent involvement and social services. All services are free of charge. Head Start is operated by Ninth Dis trict Opportunity, Inc. In Forsyth County, the office is lo cated in the Butler Office Center and in Dawson County, the office is locat ed in the Fouts Office Park. Republican party meet four times year The Republican Party of Forsyth County meet quarterly in addition to called meetings in the community room of the courthouse in the months of January, April, July and October. Overeaters meet weekly in Cumming Overeaters Anonymous meets in Cumming on Mondays and Thursdays at 7:30 p.m. and on Saturday at 10 a.m. in the Educational Building at First Christian Church. Vegetable growers set pumpkin contest The Georgia Vegetable Growers As sociation is inviting 4-H’ers from all over the state to participate in a pumpkin growing contest this year. The state winner will take home SIOO and second and third place win ners get SSO and $25 each. Forsyth County Winner also earns a ‘Georgia Vegetable Growers’ t-shirt To be eligible, 4-Hers must register with their county extension agent by June 15. They also must weigh in their pumpkins with their agent by October 15. Be sure and save the pumpkins be cause photos will be taken of the winners. Pumpkins need at least 120 days to grow to full size. Choose a sunny, well drained place that is free of weeds and grass. To plant three hills of pumpkins, you need an eight foot cir cle for each hill. Humane Society sets BBQ & flea market Forsyth County Humane Society will have the sth annual BBQ and Flea Marketon Saturday, June 16 rain dates is June 23. County Parks Dept. offers seniors events Forsyth County Parks and Recrea tion Department sponsors Senior Cit izens activities on Monday mornings, from 9 until noon at two locations within the county. Chestatee Community Building of fers a seniors program on the second and fourth Mondays. Seniors meet at Midway Park on the first and third Mondays of each month. The programs offer informal activi ties, games, crafts, covered dish lun cheons and day trips. All seniors are welcome. For addi tional information call 781-2152. Better health topic of meeting on Monday Monthly meetings are set to learn gardless of age or reading ability are i nvited to join the 1990 Summer Read ing Club and "Escape the Books.” Registration will begin June 11 at the public library (201 East Maple Street, Cumming).
