Cook family reunion scheduled June 10 The Cook family reunion will be at noon on Sunday. June 10 at the Haw Creek Club. Forsyth Library Board calls meeting, June 14 There will be a called meeting of the Forsyth County Local Public Li brary Board on Thursday June 14, 1990 at 5:30 p.m. in the Jury .Assembly Room of the County Courthouse. This meeting is open to the public. WIN will meet on June 12 Win by attending Women in Networking, an organization com posed of business and professional women, who are interested in devel oping a network with other business women and in developing their own personal skills. The next WIN meeting will be 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. June 12 at Lanier Golf Club. Kathy Ramus, M.S. in Human Resources Development will present a program entitled “Presentations with Pizazz.’’ Reservations are re quired. Vegetable growers set pumpkin contest The Georgia Vegetable Growers .Association is inviting 4-H'ers from all over the state to participate in a pumpkin growing contest this year. The state winner will take home SIOO and second and third place win ners get SSO and $25 each. Forsyth County Winner also earns a ‘Georgia Vegetable Growers’ t-shirt. To be eligible, 4-Hers must register with their county extension agent by June 15. They also must weigh in their pumpkins with their agent by October 15. Be sure and save the pumpkins be cause photos will be taken of the winners. Pumpkins need at least 120 days to grow to full size. Choose a sunny, well drained place that is free of weeds and grass. To plant three hills of pumpkins, you need an eight foot cir cle for each hill. Nichols family reunion set for June 17 A Nichols family reunion will be held June 17 at Lonnie Nichols’ old home place on Nicholson Road. Friends and relatives are invited. For information call 887-2059. Humane Society sets BBQ & flea market Forsyth County Humane Society will have the sth annual BBQ and Flea Market on Saturday, June 16 rain dates is June 23. At the Tri-Coun ty Shopping Center, and Home Fed eral Bank. Our event will be from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Plate lunch includes Chicken breast, slaw, baked beans, roll, and homemade cake. Order special tags before July 31 The Tax Commissioner’s office now has applications for special tags. Special tags include prestige (per sonalized), college, firefighters, ama teur jadio, Purple Heart Recipients and Pearl Harbor survivors. All indi- viduals wishing to purchase special tags need to pick up applications and send them in to the state along with the fee. The state will only accept ap plications until July 31,1990. for tags to be received in the 1991 tag season. For more information call 781-2110. Forsyth library plans reading program .All Forsyth County children, re gardless of age or reading ability are invited to join the 1990 Summer Reading Club and ‘Escape the Books." Registration will begin June 11 at the public library (201 East Ma ple Street Cumming). At registration, each child will receive a reading fold er and book mark to begin the program. This is a non-competitive reading program. Although no prizes are giv en for numbers of books read, our library staff will be on hand to offer incentives and encouragement to each child every' time he visits the library with his reading folder in hand. Every child will get an award certificate when he brings his read ing folder back to the library' between August 20-25. The program will end on August 25. We encourage parents to involve their children in the summer reading club. It’s fun and it’s a great way to help your child maintain his reading skills over the long vacation. UFsptbrief.2 The Sawnee Association of the Arts scheduled to hold meeting The Sawnee Association of the Arts regular meeting will be Monday. June 18 1990. at 7 p.m. The guest will be Erin Sherman. Her paintings are collected nationally and internation ally. Ms. Sherman chooses the unre markable moment and presents its basic elements as a lyrical, mildly ab stract design. Her beautiful work con tains elements of both impressionism and abstraction without being defi nitely either. Summer camp fun for girls and boys Parents who are interested in sending their boys and girls ages 7 to 14 years to residential summer camp are invited to meetings to meet with the camp directors, see camp slides and learn about the benefits of camp experience. If you or anyone you know, has ever feared for their safety in their own home, been slapped, pushed, hit, kicked or threatened with violence, now you can meet with others who have been through the same thing. You can find out your alternatives and receive counseling and support from people who understand and know how to help The support group meets every sec ond and fourth Tuesday of the month at 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The group is free of charge to wom en in the community and offers free child care. Cancer support group schedules meetings Interested persons are invited to attend a local cancer support group which has changed meetings to once a month on the third Tuesday in the Library of the First Christian Church, on the Hwy. 306 Connector. The library is located in the back building on the first floor and meet ing time is 7 to 8 p.m. The group is open to everyone and it is a discussion group for those suf fering from cancer, those being treat ed for it, or those who have a loved one with cancer. Employee donation T he employees at Tyson Foods re sponded quickly to a challegne sent out by YlO6 Country Music Radio Station which was in Forsyth County Wednesday raising money to sup port Leukemia victims and research. During the short time available em ployees at Tyson Foods donated $386 for the cause in memory of Mrs. Katie Hamby of Cumming who died of Leukemia last year.
