Rowdies fall
for first time
By Mike Webber
Sports Editor
The Under-16 Forsyth Rowdies (5-
1-1) soccer team, unbeaten prior to
this week, found it difficult to wipe
the slate clean as they dropped a 2-0
decision to the Stone Mountain
Express.
The first half was a 0-0 battle as both
teams failed to generate any kind of
offense. The second half was less than
a minute old when the Express scored
what turned out to be the winning
goal. Stone Mountain added to that
score, with a goal in the final 5
minutes.
Rowdie coach Rick Waldron sin
gled out midfielder John Cook and
Chris Johns for outstanding play on
defense.
The Rowdies, unbeaten (5-0-1) prior
to playing Stone Mountain this week,
had kept their record perfect with a 4-
2 win in Decatur over the DDY
Wildcats.
The game could have provided the
Rowdies with their first loss, as the
Forsyth County team trailed early, 1-
0.
First half goals by Scott Hoffman,
Jeff Hazard and Pepper Holcombe
gave the Rowdies a 3-1 halftime
advantage.
Nathan Blackstone's second half
goal gave the Rowdies their final goal.
A week earlier, the Rowdies had
earned their fourth victory of the sea
son with a 4-0 win at Tucker.
