Community Education program registration today
The Forsyth County Community Educa
tion Program is preparing to offer the follow
ing courses for the winter quarter. Courses
are scheduled to begin the week of Jan. 27,
1992. Classes will be held on Monday or
Thursday from 6:30-8:30 p.m. for eight weeks.
If you are interested in any of the courses
listed below, please come to registration.
Registration will be held at Forsyth Central
Vocational Department on Jan. 22 and 23
from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
Cost is S3O per course.
Courses that will be offered are as follows:
Accounting I and 11, Typing I and 11, Comput
er I and 11, Spanish I, Hand Gun Safety. First
Aid, CPR, Basic Hair Cuts, Self-Defense for
Women, and English as a second language.
Coats for Kids offers free coats
The Homemakers Council is sponosring
free coats for children during the next three
Saturdays. The coats will be available for
pick-up from 1-3 p.m. on Saturday Jan. 25,
and Feb. 1 at the Homemakers Building be

North Fulton announces events
North Fulton Regional Hospital has an
nounced upcoming events that will be hap
pening within the next few weeks. They are
as follows:
Endometriosis: Wednesday, Jan. 22,
7-8 p.m., free, Classroom B-Endome

ease process and the current medical

challenges, and give them a more pos
itive outlook. This fun course will

1-5 p.m., S2O (includes handbook),
Classroom A-A four hour course to
prepare participants to perform CPR
and obstructed airway techniques on
adults and older children.

Girl Scout Cookies to go on sale
The Northeast Georgia Girl Scout Council
will launch the order taking phase of its an
nual Girl Scout Cookie sale on Jan. 15. Pre
orders will be taken until Jan. 26. Delivery
will begin after Feb. 15.
An American tradition since the 1930'5,
Girl Scout cookies come in seven flavors: tra
ditional Shortbread and Thin Mints, Cara
mel deLites (formerly called Samoa), Peanut
Butter Patties, Peanut Butter Sandwich and
new this year, Lemon Pastry Cremes and
Praline Royale.
Cookies are $2.50 per box with profits go
ing to both local Girl Scout troops and Coun
cil headquarters to help fund program and
administrative support throughout north
east Georgia.

The Forsyth County AARP Chapter 2386
will meet at 11 a m on Friday, Jan. 24 at the
Western Steer.

Tickets are on sale now for the Cumming-
Forsyth County Chamber of Commerce Din
ner on Friday, Jan. 24. The evening includes
silent auction and cocktails at 6 p.m. followed
by dinner at 7:30 p. m. It’s going to be an enter
taining evening with guest speaker Billy
Payne, president and chief executive officer
of the Atlanta Committee for Olympic Games.
Tickets through Jan. 17 are $35 per person
and S4O per person thereafter.

Cumming/Forsyth Newcomer Club
The Cumming/Forsyth Newcomer Club
will now hold its monthly meeting on the
third Thursday of each month. The next
meeting will be held at The Polo Fields Golf
and Country Club on Feb. 20 at 11:30 a.m.
Lunch will be served and the guest speaker
will be Avery Howell, landscape architect
with Crabapple Nursery. Call Donna Blan
kenship at 889-1261 by Feb. 14 for reserva
tions. Cost is $9 which includes lunch, bever
age, dessert, tax, tip and use of facilities.
A Valentine cocktail party is also planned
for members and partners on Feb. 15.

Boy and Cub Scouts
All adult leaders for the Boy Scouts and
Cub Scouts and any other interested parties
are invited to a breakfast on Saturday, Jan. 25
at 9 a.m. at Cumming United Methodist
Church, the meal will be hosted by the Meth
odist Men ofthe Church. The church is locat
ed on Highway 20,1.7 miles East ofthe Post
Office.

Quilt-In-A-Day Workshop
A Quilt-In-A-Day workshop will be held
Tuesday evenings, Jan. 28, and Feb. 4, at 7
p.m. at Midway Park Community Building.
This class will cover everything you ever
wanted to know about rotary cutting basics
and strategies for strip piecing. A log cabin
wall hanging will be the class project

Manners and Modeling
The Cumming Recreation and Parks De
partment offers etiquette and modeling
classes. Instructor Diane Dorris teacher her
altogether lovely course at the park on Pil
grim Mill Road. The course meets each Mon
day 5-6 p.m. Cost is $35 per month. The alto
gether lovely course is a three month course
for girls ages 10-16 years of age.

Diane Dorris has taught her personal im
provement course for 17 years. She is an ex
perienced model and modeling instructor.
Mrs. Dorris is a former Director of a Model
ing School. She has judged beauty contests
throughout Georgia and has experience in
pagaent training. She has most recently held
a position of assistant to the first lady of Geor
gia and is qualified in social graces.
This class will include the following:
Make-up, the Model Walk, etiquette, social
’poise, tea time, fashion coordination, pos
ture, goal setting, manners, the social graces,
exercise, skin care, hair styles, positive self
esteem, photographic modeling, the models

The featured program of this monthly
meeting will be a water quality presentation
by the high school students, directed by their
faculty advisor-Annette Geer.
For The Love of Family
For The Love of Family is sponsored by the
Sawnee Elementary School each Tuesday
morning in February from 8:30 to 9:30. There
are many requests for additional suggestions
in the problem area of living in a family and
many questions about parenting guides for
leading a family in a healthy direction. The
following program is being offered to ad
dress these needs.
•Feb. 4: Did You Say What I Thought You
Said will address developing communica
tion and listening skills within the family and
will be led by Esther Armour, Sawnee Ele
mentary School Counselor.
•Feb. 11: Dr. Jeb Stuart of Charter Peachford
Hospital will discuss Sibling Rivalry. He will
give suggestions on how a parent can handle
problems between brothers and sisters.
•Feb. 18: Family Sculpting deals with what
roles you play in your family. Debbie Ron
dem, Forsyth County Drug Free Coordinator,
and Melanie Dallas, Mental Health Associa
tion Case Worker, will help you examine the
power of family dynamics, they will give sug
gestions on how to change your role within
the family.
•Feb. 25: Yours, Mine, and Ours-The Blend
ed Family is presented by Kay Aronson, For
syth County School Social Worker, who will
address step-parenting issues which arise
when two families merge. You will find out
how to have a smooth beginning or how to
untangle the web of problems which may al
ready be present in home.
Sawnee PTO will provide baby sitting.
Free coffee and fellowship will make this
experience informative and enjoyable.
Quilted Jacket Class
Forsyth County Parks and Recreation De
partment is sponsoring a Quilted Jacket
Class. The class will begin Thursday, Feb. 6,
9:30-11:30 a.m. At the Midway Park Commu
nity Building
The class will coverthe construction ofthe
“Europa-Jacket” with either the log cabin or
dresden plate front Basic sewing machine
experience is necessary.
The instructor is Jill Schneider and the fee
for the four week class is $45, pattern
included.

PEO Chapter of Cumming
PEO Chapter AB ofCumming is sponsoring
a Bridge Luncheon on Feb. 7, at 9:30 a.m. at
the Shady Grove Clubhouse. It will be sls per

ternational Peace Scholarship, Educational
Loan Fund, and Cottey Junior College.
Forsyth Library sets 1992
meetings
The Forsyth County Library Board of
Trustees has approved a meeting schedule
for Fiscal Year 1992. Meetings will be held in
the Forsyth County Government Building un
til the March meeting, at which time further
meetings will be conducted in the new For
syth County Public Library now under con
struction at the comer of Highway 9 and
Charles Place, is ready for occupancy, cur
rently scheduled for April 1992. All meetings
will be held at 5 p.m.; this is a change of time
from previous meetings, which were held at
5:30 p.m.
Meetings will be held on the following
Mondays: Feb. 17. March 16, April 20, May 18,
and June 15.

Come join the Forsyth County Volunteer
Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. You
need not be related to a fireman. We meet the
second Tuesday each month at 7:30 p.m. at
Station 1. We would love to have you come
join and help support the firefighters of our
