They opposed increased truck traf
fic which they said is already at a dan
gerous level, increased noise, dust
and unlimited operating hours.
“If you are not very careful you are
stepped on by a truck,” said Boyd.
Wright opposed putting heavy in
dustrial zoning in the area, although
Chairman Buddy Castleberry said he
felt M-2 zoning to be an improvement
over mine zoning.
Planning Board members said they
believed that the quarry site is the
best place for a concrete plant The
plant will mix different sized aggre
gates with cement to form concrete
and mixer trucks will be sent from the
site to pour the concrete at construc
tion sites.
They recommended approval on
the rezoning with the requirementthe
company not make any move to sue
the county concerning the subject
once final approval is granted.
Mike Houston, president of Con
cerned Citizens of Southeast Forsyth
County commended Martin Marietta
for not suing the county and going
through the process.

aggregates from quarry to processing

The board also voted to send a rec
ommendation of approval to the com
missioners concerning a proposed
120-acre housing development off of
Canton Highway.
Developer Earl Johnson hopes to
build a subdivision of about 140 lots
containing houses priced from
$90,000 to $99,500. The property is
1,000 feet east of the intersection of
Bethelview Road and Canton High
way.
The board did request Johnson
make his lots larger than the mini
mum 25,000 square feet However,
Johnson said this would raise the cost
of the homes above the price range
which is selling now.
The board unanimously approved
of the project providing that the en
trance is a double, divided entry and
is lighted, and that all utilities be
placed underground.
Youth arrested
in connection
with mail theft

A 17-year-old Forsyth County youth
was arrested recently in connection
with theft from local mailboxes and
forgery, according to the Sheriffs
Department
Chad Heath Parker of 1820 Timber
land Drive, Cumming, was arrested
on Jan. 24 and charged with first de
gree forgery and theft by receiving
stolen property.
According to Cumming Postmaster
L.C. Parks, theft incidents were re
ported in four Forsyth County subdi
visions: The Polo Fields, Hickory
Ridge off of Hwy. 20, Greenwood
Acres and Mountainside off of the 306
connecctor.
“From the best I can tell it hap
pened on Tuesday morning, (Jan.) 21,”
said Parks.
“It appears that the person took the
mail when they saw the flag up,”
Parks explained. “Their target was
mail that was going out”
According to Forsyth County Sher
iff Wesley Walraven and Investigator
Vance Taylor, Parker was arrested af
ter being identified by a surveillance
camera and others who knew him.
Parker allegedly attempted to cash
a forged check taken from some re
portedly stolen mail at a local bank,
Parks said.
Parks added that some opened mail
was also found on Polo Dr. inside the
Polo Fields subdivision.
Parks said some theft victims will
not even know their mail was taken
until they receive past due notices on
their bills.
He added that federal law prohibits
the distribution of advertisements by
hand inside mailboxes. Many thefts
occur in these types of situations,
Parks said.
“Nothing can be in or on mailboxes
if it hasn’t had postage paid,” he ex
plained.
Parks said that the recent case has
been turned over to the postal inspec
tion service. It is possible that federal
charges will be lodged.
Presently, Parker was released on
$2,600 bond to be held over for Superi
