Youth of the Month
&*y Wantwell was selected as Forsyth County's Youth of the Month by the Forsyth-
Cumming Optimist Chib.
Cory was recommended by his minister, Dr. Eugene Randolf, of the Cumming
Presbyterian Church on Atlanta Rd. Dr. Randolph said that Cory has stepped up to a
leading role In a pioneering church setting; it has taken him from a special place in
School organization, to participation in fellowship events, to tkxx-t<xJoor search
for pew members, to many other service protects in his church and community. In
fact, when he received the call that Cory had been selected as the YOM, Dr. Randolph
said that Cory was working on the church grounds at that very moment, typical of his
commitment to the church.
tyry was a good student at Otweil Middle School this past year, and we look for
ward to hearing more from him in his high school years.

Local students on
college campuses
ROME, Ga. Rachel Elizabeth
Roberts was among several recent
high school graduates participating in
Berry College’s SOAR (Student
Orientation, Advising, and
Registration) program in June.
The participants toured the campus,
discussed educational programs with
administrators, met with their advi
sers, and prepared their fall schedules.
Rachel, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Jerry G. Roberts of Cumming, is a
graduate of Forsyth Central High
School.

received Associate’s degrees during
the 109th commencement exercise at
Reinhardt College, Waleska, Ga., on
Saturday, June 5,1993. The College
graduated 170 students, one of the
largest classes in the history of the
College.
Local residents receiving degrees
were Tina Cochran, Alice
Holcomb, Amber Smith, John
Smith, and Kimberly Wainwright
The standing-room-oily audience lis
tened to the commencement address
from Johnny Isakson, a popular
Georgia politician, community leader,
and realtor. He is president of
Northside Realty, one of the nation’s
largest independent real estate bro
kerage firms.
During the ceremony, the 1993 co
valedictorians Anya Ellis of
Chatsworth, Ga., and Kim Hankins
of Conyers, Ga., were recognized.

1993 Transfer Scholarships.
Shockley received the A. A. degree
in Business Administration from
Gainesville College in June. The son
of Charles Lewis and Agnes Shockley,
both GC alumni, he was a member of
Phi Theta Kappa and is listed in
Who’s Who Among American Junior
Colleges. He received the Wall Street
Journal Award in May.
Heard, who received the A . S.
degree in Pre-Pharmacy from
Gainesville College in June, is the
daughter of Roger and Brenda Heard.
Also a member of Phi Theta Kappa,
she is listed in Who’s Who Among
Americans in Junior Colleges. She was
recognized as having the highest grade
point average among A.S. degree
graduates at the College’s
Commencement on June 11.
The University of Georgia awarded
10 UGA Transfer Scholarships this
year.

To make Dean’s List, a student must
maintain a grade point average of 3.6
or higher out of a possible 4.0 for the
quarter.
The Spring Quarter, which attracted
4,284 students to the Morrow campus,
began in late March and concluded in
June.
A Senior College Of The University
System Of Georgia
Ruth Ann Holmes of Cumming
was awarded a bachelor’s degree dur
ing commencement ceremonies at
Kennesaw State College on June 19.
Ms. Holmes of Williams Circle
earned an bachelor of arts degree in
political science from the Cobb
County based college.
General Paul X. Kelley, former
Marine Corps commandant, was the
principal speaker at twin ceremonies,
one in the morning and one in the
afternoon, during which a total of 635
degrees were awarded by KSC
President Betty L. Siegel.
